One that makes me emotional is in The Pacific. Now, I've seen so many people die that seeing it happen in a show doesn't have much of an impact on me.
But this one hit me hard. Hamm was assigned to the crew when they were at Okinawa. One of the soldiers with him complains of the horrible conditions they're in, while the Japanese army is literally just feet away from them.
One thing led to another, and they yelled at eachother. One soldier got up and started shooting at the Japs, they fired back.
Hamm, being one of the new men, grabbed Peck, the soldier shooting at the Japs at night, and pulled him back down. As he did, a bullet struck ham in the chest, and killed him instantly.
Immediately, the leader of the group said "you, you STUPID, STUPID, STUPID BASTARD!!!" As he grabbed his throat, but another soldier was able to stop him, before he killed him, which he may have done. They were hostile towards Hamm, since he was a rookie, and rookies tend to die very soon, but Hamm grew on them. Seeing the leader of their group so emotional about a man getting Hamm killed was very touching to me.

The scene in “Jerry Maguire” when Rod gets the TD, and it looks like he might be badly hurt. Then he has the celebration of his life and when he sees Jerry they have that deep and powerful man hug. Chokes me up every time. It’s obviously not just that scene. They build up to that moment over several scenes. They climax perfectly with that scene though. It was as powerful for the buddy movie storyline as the “You had me at ‘Hello’!” was for the romance storyline. I often feel like i’m the only one who saw that.
It doesn't get me as much, because it's just a little too poetic for me.
But when those men all sat in complete silence, after seeing Hamm, the rookie who just saved Peck's life, got shot through the chest by a bullet meant for Peck, and the pure rage on the leader's face, it's just so authentic.
He didn't think much of Hamm, he didn't want to befriend him, because people with less experience tend to die very quickly, and the death will hit them much harder if they befriend them.
But he defied the odds, and he went to stop Peck from getting himself killed, but instead, he took the bullet himself. The shock and regret on all of their faces really got me😭
