Terminator is a classic, Nightmare On Elm Street is a classic, Back To The Future, and everything in between are great films.

Now, I dislike how you setup this poll. This is constructive criticism, okay? Anyways, so when you put “I like CGI better”… No one says that, also “wokness”, that makes it so people have to agree with “80s are the best” which makes it difficult to show the love of films that aren’t in the rose tinted bubble you created here.

Psycho, The Lion King, The Night of The Living Dead, Shaun Of The Dead, Terminator 2(the best one), Air Force One, The Fugitive, The Wizard of Oz, Original Willy Wonka, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Beauty And The Beast, My Cousin Vinny, Toy Story, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, The Game, and so on.
There are great movies outside the 80s is my point, before & after that time period. You are allowed to be offended by politics, though for the people who love films regardless of time period let them enjoy their films in peace and you can enjoy yours.

Back To The Future is the best 80s film and I’ll die on this hill. Anyways, bye

You are young. When you get some life experience, then you will appreciate nuances of the human experience and see movies much differently. You will then learn to appreciate writing, cinematography, directing, acting, and sound/music that much more. Special effects are wonderful, but the human dimension is that much more fascinating.

Consider watching 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey and realize there were no computer-generated images in that film. For example, this is among the best sequences ever in the history of cinema:

So, how do you think they filmed this jogging sequence with no CGI?

You should also watch the films of David Lean. You will learn about the "epic movie" and the use of cinematography to tell the story without words. (Just like in 2001 also.)

I think 1965's Dr. Zhivago is an excellent start.

The better older movies from the 80s and other times are far superior to modern movies because they were made for entertainment and profit. Modern movies are full of propaganda and unrealistic political correctness.

Her name is Sarah, not Cassie (or Linda, if you're focusing on the actress). But yes, in general I'm inclined to agree; the 80's was the best time for movies (so far, at least), as the 60's was for music and the 90's for video games, and the 70's was for, um... ugly pants?

The first that springs to my mind is Airplane!- if you haven't seen it, fix that. Yes, right now; I'll wait. Some of the jokes won't land, but that's okay; there'll be another along in two seconds. The film is a classic of comedy, and you owe it to yourself to see it. Don't forget Back to the Future, Die Hard, Ferris Bueller, Ghostbusters, Field of Dreams, Indiana Jones, The Neverending Story, and They Live, plus lesser-known classics like Johnny Dangerously and Hopscotch.

There's also the Karate Kid, but... exercise caution there. The movie features Elisabeth Shue at a point where she's so cute it kinda pisses you off, and if Sarah Connor's already evoking feelings in you...

I’d have a hard time arguing against it. Great movies in the 80s and 90s, probably the peak in a lot of ways. Then the 00s had the best comedy, in my opinion. Judd Apatow movies and the like. Superbad, Wedding Crashers, 40 Year Old Virgin, Anchorman, all that kind of stuff.

1980s had the best teen angst movies, lmao. All the John Hughes films. It was a great time to be a kid. I miss renting movies every weekend, that was so exciting, haha

About the movies. I do love some 80's movies, they have some great ones. Overall I like movies from the 90's a tad more. The Hunt for Red October, Silence of the Lambs, Goodfellas, Terminator 2, Ghost, A Few Good Men, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Matrix, Unforgiven, Speed, Independence Day, The Sixth Sense, Phantom Menace, Notting Hill, You've Got Mail, A League of Their Own, Titanic, Toy Story, The Truman Show, Liar, Liar, Pulp Fiction, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Se7en, Fight Club, Good Will Hunting, Men in Black, Braveheart.

I think the 90s have a slight edge over the 80s. I do love me some 80s movies though.

Eyes wide shut.

I love films outside these decades too and even 1950's and 1960's... Older ones too. Films with Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis were great. Examples, Taras Bulba, Ten commandments and Sparticus.

I've always felt the best era for movies was roughly 1982-1997.

I'm probably biased, because those were the defining movies of my childhood, but it just seems like all the pop culture powerhouses came from that time period.

Movies from the 20's-70's have some timeless classics, but the 80's & 90's were the age of the summer blockbusters.

Not really. They introduced some new elements, but it was more or less the same bullshit storylines rehashed.

It's why Hollywood has been declining, while Netflix and others ascending. Hollywood has not been paying writers right since the 70's. Whereas Netflix is giving new and foreign writers a wider platform.
