The only one that ever gave me nightmares as a kid was Alien, and I didn't even see the movie, I just remember the commercials and those scenes always left me feeling horrible. Vivarium did mess me up for a minute too.

Worst of all was when I read the book The Ruins about a group of youngsters on a trip to Mexico who ventured into the jungle and ended up on a hill covered in carnivorous vines. The plot to that was like no other: they couldn't leave the hill because the Mayan locals surrounded it to keep them from leaving, because they knew the vines could be spread, and of course staying on the hill wouldn't go well either. Horrific book with a grim ending. Had nightmares about it for 3 years. Never saw the movie but from what I did see it wasn't as bad as the book.

Not to the point of having nightmares, but getting scared shitless by watching movies like The Evil Dead, Predator or Cronenberg's Fly as a teenager wasn't the smartest decision.

As a child "Final Destination" scarred for some years.. I remember crying when a freight trained stopped for and I saw some guys crawling under it, remembering the freight train scene from the first movie..

I don't watch horror films, because real life can sometimes be worse than any horror film, therefore I don't see the appeal for them.
