Today's parents are at the very least dysfunctional. They generally carry the psychopathic traits of an authoritarian parent and the narcissistic traits of a permissive or uninvolved parent.

Modern parents in the US are much worse than the parents of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. They are not as physical with their children, but they are worse in many other ways possible. Children are on their devices for way longer than the government-imposed average, but the contributions to that are deservingly blamed on how overprotective and sometimes emotionally abusive these dysfunctional families are.

Contrary to popular belief, predators are not roaming around as often as they were in the past. Now they are online, so it makes absolutely no sense for parents to ban their children from being left alone solely because there are "predators".

Some parents blame their technology-era authoritarian parenting (posed as "authoritative") on global warming. Back then, children would easily go outside in hot weather without even fearng of anything, and they would even fall on waterslides and playgrounds without feeling too much pain.

Gen Xers and Millennials secretly attempt to make Peter and Lois Griffin, and Homer and Marge Simpson, their "role models" when it comes to parenting. Gen Z is changing parenting for good thanks to all of these ultrarealist and reverse-boomer perspectives they hold.

When all of Gen Z starts having children we all need to start homeschooling them and getting them into real estate and volunteer work as early as age five.

I'm afraid its the West's obsession with litigation that is to blame. Especially in the USA. It's impossible now to do all kinds of things my generation did as kids because they can never be 100% safe.

You go cycling with your mates, you fall off and hurt yourself. Ninety nine times out of a hundred, a scratch and no more. Occasionally a broken arm. Too dangerous!

You explore nature, the countryside, mountains. Occasionally, someone slips and falls. A small number get seriously injured or die. So ban all mountaineering - it's a death sport!!

You climb trees, you go up on the scaffolding of your parents' house extension, very occasionally a boy or girl falls and is hurt. Keep them locked inside and safe!!

If you want children to grow into adults skilled at assessing danger and how to avoid and confront it, then you have to put children into situations where danger exists. That means there is a small probability of adverse outcomes.

My mountaineering club had a mantra: 'Good judgement comes from experience, but experience comes from bad judgement'.

Parents who don't ever let children make bad judgements will never allow their children to learn from experience.

It's a daft, dangerous mantra and promotes the idea that we should all be replaced with mechanical robots.

Every generation has always spoken low of the "next generation," while admiring the previous and their own. It's a flaw in rationale, and why "rose coloured spectacles" is always a problem in historical accounts.

People are actually murdered more by their families, friends and cops, than strangers - this has always been the case. Criminality seeks vulnerability but also relies on a level of authority or personability to be able to rationalise how to "get away with it".

It's one reason LESS people are killed these days than in previous generations and MORE and held accountable. This is not only down to better technology, but better access to it.

Back in the 1900's they probably chopped you up and buried your remains out in the desert for "back talk". Then blamed "some negro in a white van" or "he's ran from home!" and no one would question them.

Even now most murders of family members are done by boomers and people with that old fashioned mentality.

GenX, Z and Millennials are more likely to obey the law than break it. But they are less likely to take shit from previous generations just to "be nice" as the boomers used to.

My mom was a boomer, and she chose motherhood as a primary responsibility while she worked part time. However, she always encouraged us to go for our dreams and be smart about the men you let in your life. I’d say she was a relaxed authoritative because she didn’t get too pushy about expectations. I really like that parenting style.


Several years ago my grandmother (dads mom) tried to parent me in a sense when we moved into her guest house down by the beach, and while I love her and may she rip, she was overbearing with old school traditional expectations, and while I gave her my ear on most of it, I just didn’t agree with much of it. She kept trying to push me to get on my man about he spends his money and try to dictate how much he spends and on what. This is what many people don’t get about traditional gender roles. When it says that the woman runs the home…the woman runs the home, and she’s ordering her husband to take care of his “masculine” roles such as maintenance, mowing, trash, etc. and he obeyed, because that’s what husbands do. Many people today want to ignore that part. 😂

I think your grandmother would have benefitted from actually doing those things, to gain perspective. She sounded like a brat.

My grandmother didn’t do that to my grandfather, it was impractical and didn’t make sense. She didn’t know shit about work my grandfather did, so why try and bark orders or micromanage if one doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about? He did what he was good at, she did what she was good at.

This just goes to show that there were successful, unsuccessful, and varied relationships even in their “great generation”. No generation has been flawless.

Yeah. I mean on the other hand, my grandpa wasn’t a saint in marriage either. He was jealous and possessive and didn’t want her to work as a cook for anyone but him.

I’m definitely more of a relaxed person as I don’t have the time or the wherewithal to micromanage difficult people or otherwise anyone who isn’t already the way I like them to be. I’m the type of woman I’ll just get up and walk out of someone’s life before I burden myself worth trying to micromanage you.

Busy, is how I would describe mine. 7 kids who had children of their own, grandmother could have had a full time job just visiting family. My grandfather had a boat, plane, and did pretty much all of his home repairs, renovations, and rebuilds. They were also part of that “waste nothing” generation so they would save shit they wouldn’t use for years. Pack rats. And ho shit did they build stuff heavier back then, so much metal. All this plastic on mowers nowadays. I still remember when I was 8 being sat on his 10’ deck rusty tractor and he goes “Cut the lawn, don’t run into shit, your grandmother is making pbjs for lunch.”

I grew up w/a baby boomer single mom in the 80's/90's and I got disciplined w/a metal stew spoon! lol But her parenting was very vile b/c she was always working and my little brother has ADHD/Autism. In the 80's/90's they didn't know so much about "mental health" issues, so he was just on Ritalin and hyper all the time! lol But despite all that, she still did a lot with us. We weren't on cell phones and computers 24/7.

Religion is not the foundation of the United States and it is certainly nots a tried and true system!
Theirs been pope’s taking bribes, having wild parties and worshiping Greek gods soft almost the entire time the title pope has existed.

The United States was created to separate church and state and was one of the first countries to do so (I think)

I think Gen Z has too many mouth breathers. But cheer up, I related with my generation in some ways and VASTLY differed with them in others. I also get along quite a bit more with my grandfather, who was part of the last “great generation”. <-Remember this is the same generation to actually use a nuclear weapon for mass killing. So if you don’t like your peers, don’t follow them.

I was beat with a belt and paddle. My etiquette was a combination of fear of my Dad coming home and wanting to have as much fun as I could. When my parents disciplined me, it as them trying to help me survive. Was it the most optimal? I don’t know. But I’m grateful for any type of guidance over none at all had they divorced or something. My life would be quite a bit worse if I didn’t have good parents.

And remember this, man, it’s one thing to parent from a book, it’s another to parent on the fly. I thought I was pretty safety conscience with my 2 yr old god daughter until she fell face first into pond with me right next to her. It was almost like that scene from the animated Mulan, where they karate chopped the water to grab fish, Jackie Channed that shit and immediately pulled her up by one leg.

Point being, when you’re in the moment, you’re going to go with your gut, however fucked up it may be. And you try to improve yourself so it rubs off on them. You’ll also talk things over with other family members to see what works for them.

To my thinking world is really going on shit sides we are working hard more and more but may not be happy we may not be good relationship as we may or other partner may not be happy as there giving each other time as for children there is too much work for there fuuture and parent aspect them to get high grate but all work she is taught them do they remeber it all and is it really important in there life also many families now are small by which there is very small open communication and theri tanh
