My friend thinks she can sing but really can't? How do I tell her?

She shows off an awful lot about it too. She has given up everything and just stays at home playing music. I worry for her welbeing. She uploads cover songs on the internet and her voice screeches and breaks too and gets hammered with hate.

Just tell her. And if she is the type of person who goes like " Stop lying! You're just jealous of me. I mean who isn't" Then show her all the hate comments and make her listen to herself sing. And if everything fails then make her go on the voice or the x factor, she will embarrass herself but at least she will know she sucks. Maybe before that go to a music teacher or a someone who cares about her and make them judge her singing

I told her kindly to invest in coaching. She doesn't want to. She can play the guitar but her voice is just flat. I have a link. I'm just waiting for someone to tell her straight as cruel as it is. :(

does she have a friend that is extremely close to her with the exception of you of course? Try asking that person to tell her. Also wouldn't know she sucks by reading all the comments.

Nah they just tell her to keep doing it because she's dropped out of school and stayed home for years refusing to do anything and music is it so people just leave her too it.

Just break it to her. " You are not that good but might improve by taking lessons. If you don't want to take lessons then at least go back to school so if this "career" doesn't work out then you have something to fall back on" If these seriously fails and she is being stubborn she seriously should go on the x factor or something like that

I would try to encourage her in her strengths.

"I think you could benefit from a vocal coach to take it to the next level". It will be the coach's job to break it to her and I'm sure they will have been in that situation with students who think they can sing before but can't so they will know how to handle it. ahahah

Well then I think you've done what you can. If a good friend tells you something it's up to you to listen, if she can't do that then her embarrassment later on will be her own fault.

No it's not. I've been a singer since I little. Since I was a toddler I've had vocal lessons, choir, and voice competitions and contests. She's singing off-key. Plain as day.

There's a difference between stylized flatting on purpose... and every note being flat.
