I know it’s sad, but sometimes growing up without your father is less toxic then growing up with him.

No. But he was violent. I grew up afraid of him. And he's on medication now, but that's only because he wasn't happy. He goes off it when it suits him, with no regard for how he hurts his family when he's off it, and yet he has the nerve to call us selfish whenever we disagree with him.

My dad abandoned me for his new family. I haven't heard from him since I was 9. Not a birthday card, or a phone call. Nothing. He was my first great heartbreak and it still affects my life today.

He did leave when my sister and I were young, but I don't think about him.
He wasn't there and that was our normal.
