Is that one “stuck up” and standoffish family actually stuck up or do they just have trouble relating to the rest of the family?

In my experiences, most people who seem stuck up or standoffish aren't at all. They just appear to be because they're either shy , have social anxiety or they just can't relate to the people they're around.

When someone is standoffish they can seem stuck up, but there's always an underlying reason why they're standoffish.

I used to think the daughter of a woman I know was stuck up, but once I got to know her, I realized she wasn't at all. She was just painfully shy.
