Short Answer:
Is it your penis? No? Then don't.
Because if your son ever wants to be circumcised, he can still do it.
Also keep in mind that babies can NOT be fully anesthetized. See this experiment: http://edition.cnn.com/HEALTH/9712/23/circumcision.anesthetic/
Long Answer: Look at my comment here: Do you think circumcision should be illegal like FGM?
Even though I will almost certainly never meet or know your son, I want to advocate on his behalf. He is obviously defenseless to prevent the mutilation of his body and is incapable of giving consent. If you allow this to happen he will be strapped down on a "circ board" because otherwise he wouldn't lie still while part of his penis is amputated. I would ask on his behalf to allow him to have his body integrity and then, when he is grown, he can exercise his personal autonomy to choose or not whether to be cut. He cannot speak for himself right now. Although his response to the cutting itself will --- in it's own way --- speak for itself. Very few parents ever witness this being done. The cutting is usually done to satisfy something in the parent giving approval instead of the best interests of the child. Cutting off part of a baby's penis is no way to welcome them into the world.
I was cut as a newborn and I wish my penis was intact.
Nicely said.
If I had to make that decision I would fully research what circumcision does to a boy's body. Especially investigate the part where they don't have as many nerves that give him pleasure because some doctor severed them and he will never know the true pleasure of sex BECAUSE his nerves are gone forever! Sure it may look better, but look at what a guy has lost just to have a pretty looking penis. Sad!
P. S. I gave birth to a son in the 1970's. Back then, it seemed as if it was just standard to do circumcision. I walked by the window when they were doing it. I saw my brand new laying there SCREAMING and crying. It was his only way to communicate to stop it. But they didn't stop. I will never forget seeing him laying on that table screaming and crying. It was horrible!
My opinion is NO. It's not necessary and it's not your body. However, I have been told that it's important for a son to look like his father. I don't really know.
My husband and I chose not to cut our son and he's never complained about our decision.
Your son can get cut later, but he can't put anything back that you took away.

Since I want you to have an answer without bias or to try to be judgmental towards you...
As a parent you mainly aim towards the wellbeing of your child, and every choice or decision have its pros and cons. Dus, inform yourself throughly from different legitimate sources.
If you find people saying that your child did not give or can not give his concent for that operation, it could easily be said as well that the child did not concent being conceived or even did not concent to be born.
Is true that loose of sensitivity (pleasure) during sexual intercorse might occur, but this is more of a "getting used to" rather than a removal of nerves during the operation. Along the years, with the child growth and the exposure of the glans (head of the penis) against the fabric of the diaper and later underwear could in most cases decrease sensitivity, since you get use to the friction.
It could be painful such as any operation involving the removal of an organ (yes skin is an organ) or limb. However, the doctors performing these operations are experts and have experience, they will do best for the child. If you think that this operation is traumatic and or painful, so is being born for a baby, yes, not only mothers endure pain during birth, we still do not know how much pain children endure during birth, but we know that it evolves trauma and pain, and for the comments read I can say most of you turned to be fine.
In my opinion this is more a cosmetic surgery rather than mutilation since mutilation is a word that has negative cognitive and do not truly define this surgery. Furthermore, people who compare it to FGM do not know that FGM have three types.
type 1 (clitoridectomy) which is the removal of part or all of the clitoris this is like removing part or all the glans (head of the penis).
type 2 (excision) which is removing part or all of the clitoris and the inner labia (the lips that surround the vagina), with or without removal of the labia majora (the larger outer lips) this is line removing part of all the glans along with all the skin sorounding the penis.
type 3 (infibulation) which is the narrowing of the vaginal opening by creating a seal, formed by cutting and repositioning the labia no true comparison can be done for this. Not to mention that FGM is mostly done at home in sertain cultures and not in a clinic or hospital with the expertise of a doctor.
If you can teach your child to properly maintain the area clean and later teach him about the dangers of STDs and the use of a condom to prevent that, then I say it is not necessary.
Thank you for your productive comment
How about not mutilate your child's genitals? They lose a lot of sensitivity down there, you'll negatively affect his sex life forever by doing so? And what for? Outdated religious tradition, from a time when people lived in the desert long before proper sanitation and hygiene standards? That's insane. There simply is no valid reason to mutilate your infant son's genitals. What do you think the reason that the US is one of the very very few western countries in the world left, where circumcision is still common?

I suggest you join the 21st century and do not participate in barbaric medieval practices.
And what I understand the least, is why not let a boy decide for himself what to do with his own penis, when he's old enough to do so? There's outrage over genital mutilation on girls in Africa (rightfully so!) but we're fine with doing similar things to our boys? Why?
My wife and I chose not to circumcise our son (for context we live in a region of the United States with the highest rate of routine infant circumcision). There was no way to justify removing healthy, functional, erogenous tissue from a minor that can't possibly consent, permanently modifying their sexual function. We'll leave that decision to him.
Lol what decision? Like any sane person would want their foreskin cut of. Hahaha. That's complete insane it's unbelievable.
This insane male genital mutilation culture in the us needs to stop.
Very good decision, im happy that people are evolving to higher thinking.
As you are at it already: You could also trim back his ears, and shorten one or two of his toes :)
(we'll find dome ''logic'' reason for it later)
Right now this is safe because he's still little. If you wait with it too long - he may punch you in the face for trying.
I can and do have experience as we have a 18 mth old little boy.
Both my husband and I have discussed this, and categorically, very firmly and totally agree that we shall leave this for our son to make his own decision, as and when he comes of age, or even later in life.
Under no circumstances whatsoever, other than for a medical emergency, will we barbarically mutilate our son.
It depends on your culture, your religious beliefs etc. Since you don't have a strong opinion, but your partner has, I would do the cut.
Personally I am uncut: being born into a culture which doesn't circumcise. As an adult, I wanted it done, but talking to people and reading stories, I found that it is extremely painful with a long recovery period as an adult.
I have found a way of "simulating" the cut look and feel, but it takes little bit of self-discipline to execute.
Good luck with the decision.
I'm uncircumcised and I'm happy with it.
As far as I know it's just an outdated religious practice. The only downside is you have to wash under it but that takes a measly 5 seconds.
If he regrets not being circumcised he can always choose to later in life, but he can never get it back if he regrets being circumcised.
Hmmm... to slice off a part of your child's anatomy, or keep his body intact?
I don't understand why this is even a question, or why male genital mutilation is even still legal in the first place.
Maybe your partner's opinion should be weighted more than yours, on this one. He's a man. He has far more knowledge about this.
If he was neutral, or for it, as a mother, I would have it done. It's hygienic; that's a huge plus. But if you decide not to, that's fine too. He'll have a bit more sensitivity.
And don't worry about the temporary pain. He won't even remember it.
Considernig he has never had a foreskin, he can't really compare it, either.
Asker, don't listen to the people who say "if he wants to do it as an adult, it's his choice, but don't take away his choice today." On the choice, yes, valid point, but adult men rarely get it done. It's just way too painful to endure later on. It's once born, while still in hospital, or by a moyle, or not at all.
You can read more here (see matchrestore, for one.)
Why do Americans get circumcised even if they’re not Jews? ↗
So adults shouldn't do it, because it's too painful - but babies who can't be fully anesthesized should go for it?
U wut mate
I chose to not get my son circumcised. My family wanted me to but I honestly couldn't bear the thought of my baby's most sensitive part being cut on. Like just no. As long as you keep the area clean there's nothing to worry about. If he decides when he's older he wants it cut then that will be HIS decision.
Sacrifice goat? Tradition when newborn baby comes to earth. Some traditions need to fade away.
Im happy my parents didn't cut me, if they did i would hate them for it now and maybe decide to go cut their throats for it in return.
Im fuking Viking i dont take no shit.
I have two boys and they are both intact. There is no reason to mutilate a babies body. Even my husband that was circumcised as a baby thinks the whole thing is disgusting and could never gotten it done to our boys.
I would circumcise, but no matter what you choose, it's not going to greatly affect your child.
Well it's nice to hear it's not the end all be all, it's kind of been the talk of my friend group if I will or if I won't cause they all have their own opinions. It's hard to choose sighhh
It's hard because people are saying it's mutilation and all this. But I was brought up that it was cleaner, safer and bunch of other stuff. So I'm hoping it's really not as bad as some people are saying
Sorry to reply so late, but yes, it does make it easier to keep clean and such. GaG is the wrong place to talk about this sort of thing, most people here won't give you a well-rounded answer. They'll just try to guilt trip you into doing/not doing something that has nothing to do with them anyway.
Also, not surprised that I have so many downvotes. 😂
You’re wrong. I got circumcised later in life. And when I did I lost a good portion of the feeling I get down there.
So you’re WRONG.
Okay sorry. But what I said is true
Wow.
@Hallo626262 omg wow
@ChefPapiChulo omg EQUALITY
Nope.
yeah! her opinion is wrong. but its her opinion.
Wow that’s a lot of downvotes
Oh so now you agree
I'm not a mom, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but my boyfriend is not circumsized and I see no reason to do so. I'm not actually sure why this is such a common procedure here, but I really don't find it necessary. We have a great sex life, and from what I hear, having the foreskin intact makes sex more pleasurable for men.
Its for religious reasons. It's supposed to prevent masturbation.
Absolutely not. It is a crime to mutilate girls and should be a crime to mutilate boys. It serves no useful purpose. If you believe it does, spend a few day gradually pulling the foreskin back until it stretches enough to remain back. The effect will be the same without all the harmful mutilation.
Don't mutilate your kid. There's no reason to do it, outside of religious reasons.
No need to circumcise, so why do it?
Are male animals circumcised? No, of course not, and they are just fine - just like your boy will be.
Do the right thing - don't do it.
One thing I disagree on how these people are abusing you
I believe that I would leave it up to my son when he gets older
but also heard that circumsion prevents cancer of the penis
I know a guy who was not circumcised and he developed cancer
of the penis and he died at a young age but he also was a alcoholic
my opinion is to see what the doctor tells you I am circumcised but
back in 1968, my doctor did not do a full circumcision on me and I have no problem my penis
Why would you EVER MUTILATE YOUR CHILD?
there's no scientific research to back it up as being beneficial...
I'm not really swayed either way. I've seen some arguments for one position and some for the other side, I'm just not really sure myself which way to lean. It's a common practice but I know that doesn't mean it's the best choice
From what I've read FGM and circumcision aren't 1:1, but I can see how just the idea of the procedure is a little much
@tashaamiee actually cutie FGM and MGM which you want to do on your child is extremely comparable. The most common form of female genital mutilation is actually less invasive then what you want to do to your child. You are so disgusting.
I think that should be his choice but obviously rn he can't choose. so anyway, im guessing he can have it done later in life when he can choose so i would wait and let it actually be his decision to have it done ! (◡‿◡✿)
Nobody in the right mind would ever do that. People who want to mutilate their bodies should be sent to a psychiatrist. Just because your sick culture encourages it doesn't make it right.
What do you not understand?
I am a first time mother. We circumcised our son. I prefer them and hubby is Jewish but also prefers them. The sooner you get it done the better. It heals very quickly within 3 days was healed was healed completely by day 7. It made me cry to do it to his dick because you have this beautiful baby you just had and you don't want anything to hurt him so it sucks to know your doing this but I knew in the end it was for the best.
You are so disgusting. You genitally mutilated your child because of your sick believes. You should be in prison.
Did you seriously just ask a bunch of strangers online if it’s okay to slice up your baby’s dick? What the fuck is wrong with you?
I just asked a question, hell I get it might be a sensitive topic for some, but it's the norm from where I'm from
The fact that slicing up a kid’s dick is normal anywhere in the world is pretty fucked up. The fact that you don’t understand that says you shouldn’t reproduce.
I would say 'no'., but this is your decision alone.
I appreciate the more thoughtful answer :)
I would say that it seems barbaric to take a child who is just experiencing the world, strap him to a table, and cut off part of his genitals.
@TashaAmie i would probably kill my dumb mother if she mutilated my genitals. So think about it maybe
My parents got me cut when I was born. Personally I don’t care and I’m happy about the way it looks for myself. My parents did it mainly because it’s more sanitary?
If I have a son down the road, I’ll just have him make the choice.
I read it as, “My parents did it manually” lol
It's not more sanitary. Obviously. My god Americans need help.
Please don't do it, this is irreversible, so it's unfair for the kid.
About the hygiene stuff, he can have his dick intact and wash it every day, I do it with mine and as a result my dick never fell off.
Would you want your clitoral hood removed to make masterbation and sex more difficult and less pleasurable?
Don't mutilate your child please.
Don't, let him decide for himself once he is old enough.
hurts more when you are older
@888theGreat guess what nobody would ever do it when there older if you're not insane
@888theGreat hurts the same. Leaves subconcious trauma. Maybe there reason why you dont remember it.
This is a total no brainer.
Its not your choice to make.
If you want to mutilate someones genitals, do it to yourself.
Don't do it. It's horrible to mutilate a child's genitals, no mater the gender.
Circumcision at birth is morbid oppression. Let him decide that on his own
I have a 7 year old son he's not circumcised and I wouldn't do it if I had another son either congratulations by the way on the birth of your beautiful son
NOOo, plus if he chooses to he can when he’s a adult and get it done or under ur permission. But yeah nah I never understand I feel it’s cruel a bit cuz I have heard my guy friends that are circumcised Complain I feel bad for them lolll.
I feel the “ reduces bacteria and cervix cancer” is BS cuz yes it’s true but a guy can learn to clean his dick if he’s uncircumcised.
I agree with a lot of people here that it’s an outdated trend and is comparable to FGM in some ways. I would let your child keep his parts, he doesn’t have anyone else to speak up for him so that’s your job if you feel it’s not right 🙂
I wouldn’t unless it’s a religious or medical reason. I think it’s cruel
My circumcision left me with a disfiguring scar that will cost me thousands to have fixed. So I would say no.
Leave it be. If he wants it done when he's older it's on him.
Well in China they don’t circumcise boys until 6 years old, maybe if you wait and see if it becomes a problem then he can have it done himself. I was circumcised at birth so I don’t know any difference and still very sensitive there
Circumcision is genital mutilation. And anyone who considers it should be punished the same as any child predator.
I don't have my dick cut off and I'm doing pretty well, no need for that shit.
Its not circumcision, its called male genital mutilation
Why not cut off a piece of his ears and nose while you're at it?
if you are not sure either way, i would let his dad make the decision on why or why not
It was very difficult for me as a dad to take this decision without the mother having an opinion herself. The whole decision was kind of on my shoulders. It would have been very helpful, if she had had an opinion as well. Even the opinion as a woman and sexual partner of cut vs uncut males counts, I think.
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SOME SENSE YOU CAN TELL HOW MANY ARE MORONS ON HERE AND SOULDNT HAVE KIDS, they dont and can't even make the simplest decisions, they shouldn't have kids if they are this STUPID!!! clearly the down votes are from MORONS who can't make a simple choice its not fucking rocket science dont have kids if you are this stupid!!!
@user1245322 if you have to ask on GAG about circumcising your kid um yeah i kinda figured the stupidity
Hmm... in my opinion. I think you should leave it alone.
Leave his body intact.
The decision should rest with the father alone.. No penis no opinion.. It's mutilation no more no less.
Agreed. It's sickening.
@Celtero cool and rapist advocate for rape. How tf do you think this is relevant?
@Celtero well obviously their opinion doesn't matter it should be illegal
Don't. Just don't. Let your baby decide once it's an adult.
When he's older I'd say is best. Im circumsized and forever wonder what it wouldve been like
Simply do circumcise him for sure. So i am team chop it off.
Gross
I say yes even though I’m not cir because I wasn’t stable when I was born
Whats your reasoning?
@Honesttguy I wasn’t stable that’s what the doctor said but I was born with a rare disease and you can’t cir babies in a critical condition
Ok, thats why you are uncir but what reasoning for wanting to cir?
@Honesttguy I wash my penis as often as I have to wash my hands an uncir penis is too high maintenance and it smells really bad if you don’t clean it
That is pretty good reason. I remember having same issue when i was going through puberty years, but once i reached place where and i know this is a bit weird convo but when i reached place where my foreskin was able to move over my head hygiene issues went away. I dont know your situation but you can look into stretching foreskin exercise maybe that helps.
@Honesttguy when I was little I didn’t know penises had heads this was when my foreskin covered my whole thing and I thought the head was one of my testicles and if I pulled it back too far it would fall off😂😂
Well there're females who wouldn't date an uncircumcised guy. So if you choose not to, his dating life is doomed
Don't decide for him.
Slice it , better hygiene
@Hallo626262 No , it is quite logical , but you would not have any logic
It's a complete myth you don't need to clean a intact penis at all. You also don't need to wash under your eyelids. You wouldn't understand as someone who got mutilated but is in denial and full of mutilation propaganda.
Boomer, you left us toxic water, air and earth its enough for your nonsense it has to stop.
Foreskin is natural, leave it.
You need to ask your son this cause I am no him
Get him circumcised.
Disgusting
Ask the doctor.
Do it
Don't do it
No circ
cut.
Disgusting
What about that throat of yours? What you say?
@Honesttguy cut yours instead and cut your heart out if you had one which you don't and cut your head off
@Honesttguy you don't want to fuck with me buddy or you may end up in a wooden casket covered in dirt
