Am I considered an adult?

I am a 19-year old university student. I live alone, since over a year ago. I visit my parents on average about once a month. At the risk of sounding a little selfish, I would say I am more responsible than average. However, I seem to still be a child in most people's eyes, and it can be fairly frustrating.

You’re a “young adult”. There will always be people who don’t respect you. You are who you are and will be the age you are. You are no less for your age. Youth is a beautiful thing and naturally you will think differently. You will never have the same creativity and neuroplasticity. You can be greater than the adults around you. You do have less experience but so be it, the point is to make BETTER experiences than them. Do you really want the same sad life many adults have fallen into? You have a greater possibility of change the younger you are. Take it as an advantage. Use their bad experiences to your gain.

You're an adult, but you need to create a rite of passage so that you feel like one.

Do something challenging or exciting. Travel or a sporty challenge usually works.

I'm fairly busy with university and work, so I dont have time for travelling or a big sport's challenge.

Make time for it after you're done. But really you could train for a marathon or something while in school still. Exercise makes a great study break to stay focused.

I do exercise, running just isn't for me, have an old dance injury since I used to do professional dancing.

Cycling is a good choice if you're looking for low impact. I've got some joint injuries so I can relate.

I climb fairly regularly.

Well there's a good challenge potential there. Too much for me though 😜, I'm too aware of my own mortality to enjoy climbing.

Lol, nah I do bouldering, that's with no harness and only up to 5 meters up.

Yea I mean there is a mattress, but acvidents do happend and I've seen it. However it's never fatal.

At 19 years old you're in university, and living on your own? Sounds like your bills are paid and you're an independent woman! I would definitely say you're an adult, don't listen to the prudes.

By law yes, but by society you're at the beginning of adulting so still not a grown up from that perspective.

I do understand that, and I don't blame people for thinking it. But it just sucks having all kinds of assumptions thrown at me, from people who have never talked to me. Most of it's related to party culture I don't know why

Does the term "adult" mean a lot to you? Dont expect every adult to behave adult. When my dad, who is 66, has just one beer, he behaves like a child.
