Why are my parents preaching me about not getting drunk if they did the same too?

Anonymous

Overall I'm a serious, college girl. I only go to parties twice a month and yes a couple of friends and I get drunk.

My parents kept preaching about how you can have fun without getting drunk, how getting wasted is a bad example, how my reputation can be ruined, that's not how ladies act, etc. They did more wild things when they were young themselves. Why preach about something you did?

My mom obviously wasn't my dad's first. He was a former party guy and he started settling down in his late 20's. My mother used to get drunk with friends too. So what's wrong with having fun and getting drunk 2x a month?

Why all of the sudden, they switch to ''serious, omg don't do that'' folks. Talk about hypocrisy. This might sound harsh but I did once replied ''You guys did the same thing too at my age, actually you guys did more''.
