Does the dynamic of opposite-sex friendships change with time?

I'm strictly interested in male/female friendships.

After a few years of friendship do you guys stop calling and texting as much as you did at the beginning when you first got to know each other? You know you still like each other's company very much but don't feel the need to talk as intensely as before.

As a person who pretty much only has guy friends and they are platonic minus if I have a boyfriend then no the friendship doesn’t really change. You may start out talking more often but as you get to know someone you don’t feel the need to text all the time. It also depends on the type of relationship you have with them but all and all if it changes drastically that may be a bad sign but otherwise it just means you guys are comfortable in being friends and living out your lives knowing you have them when you need them/want to talk.

I had a close female friend for a few years. I was in a relationship with somebody else and she was engaged to my roommate but they broke up. We did lots of thing together. Sometimes the dynamic would change. Once she confessed that she had feelings for me. We had a long talk about it. A while afterwards I got confused about my feelings for her and we had another discussion. It turns out she didn't feel the same way about me. It was a strange relationship but it is one of my best memories of that whole era.

after 20 years... the essence of it has not changed no, our friendship is still a friendship

what has certainly changed over time though... is the time we actually spend together, because well... life, work, partners, families, and also other friends and stuff... do require much more time for either and all of us
