If your best friend was in a toxic relationship, how much effort would you put in to help them end it?

None. No matter how bad it is, s/he needs to handle that on their own. I don't meddle.

Some effort. Give advice. Try to help them see the problem, but back off if they don't budge.

A lot of effort. It's my best friend. They don't deserve to be treated like crap. I would be all the way involved until they officially broke up for their own good.

There is only so much you can do. Toxic relationships are hard to get out of because of the damage it does to your emotional and mental health. You can support them and give them advice but it doesn’t mean they are ready to hear it and follow your advice. If they are physically abusing her, you could report it to the police but other than that there’s not a whole lot u can do other than to be her shoulder to cry on. There is always a limit to what someone will tolerate. She will reach that limit and leave him eventually or he will find someone else to focus his attention on and leave her. For me it was the second one. I was lucky.

i honestly just think people need to come to realise things like this on their own, yes as their friends you obviously have to help them on the way but in my experience people don't like to listen and prefer to let things go to shit first, you can do your best but it's up to them to do something about it

What I will do is give them suggestions and how to go about it if they are willing to end it.

However, I won't do anything directly or go out of my way to help that person. Moreover, you cannot help anyone unless they wish to help themselves. If the person themselves are not willing to end the toxic relationship then nobody can help that person.

They need to do it themself.

My friends and I don't get involved in each other's love lives. I think guys are different that way.

It usually goes like,

"How's things with what's her name?"

"Dude... it sucks"

A lot of effort, but I would do it very strategically. Often, if your friend is with an abuser or even someone with a personality disorder, if you try to help them by telling them the truth about their relationship, it will have an adverse effect rather than a desired one. Usually, if your friend is being abused, they have also been brainwashed or manipulated by the toxic partner and told to report back anything said about their relationship. Any criticism of the partner will be met with staunch defence of their toxic relationship and denial of how bad the relationship truly is.

The best thing to do is to be there for them no matter what, if your friend decides to contact you or needs some support. They need to see the truth for themselves. When they finally do, it is important to be there for them to help pick up the pieces. These relationships can be very confusing and devastating for the people involved in them.

My best friend suddenly announces he was getting married. He was marrying somebody who was divorced and had a kid. His mother called me and asked me to talk him out of it. I had a long talk with him and really tried to talk him out of it. I knew he was making a mistake. We were both still in college. He did it anyway and I was his best man. He later got divorced.

I'll give them advice. If Inreally care I will record the advice with her in it, saying my predictions of how it will go so I can shove it in her face later.
They can't say I didn't warn them. Some peolle just refuse ro believe or listen and that is why I back off. They have to figure it out for themselves or they just go in the next abusive relationship after.
