Do you ever regret not telling off certain people who deserved to hear the criticism?

Question

Like maybe an old boss, an ex, or a family member or in-law. I’ve often taken the high road and to be honest sometimes I regret it.

Because if I could go back today I think I would have told my old boss to kiss my ass many times, and I’d have another one suffer the consequences of his sexual harassment, and I’d have knocked a couple of family members off their soap box too. I don't know maybe that’s petty but some people get away with too much bs.

It crosses my mind. Only because if I was wronged moving on doesn't change the fact that I was wronged. But it's not like you're going to ever get even with everybody who wronged you in life. And then you need to look at all your blessings and realize that thier journey in life is thier journey. God's looking out for me.

I got injured at work a couple years. back, about the same time a management change in my job was happening. I wasn't able to bounce back as quickly as they wanted me to and looked for a reason to replace me. The new management didn't know or care that I'd worked faithfully for the company for 23 years. I could be angry about that. But it forced me (after I healed, to strike out on my own) because after that I'd had enough of working for someone. Now 2 years. Later I'm running my own business and this year I'm on pace to clear as much as I did at my previous job on my BEST year. The best thing about it is I felt seriously capped at what I could make at that job. I feel like there's no limit to how successful I can be now. So I'm more motivated than I've been in years.

So getting wronged isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes it can spur you to do great things. 👍

I have no regrets, because I have no problem telling people what I think. I've never been fired, but I have been punched in the face for it. I'd rather have a broken nose, then keep my mouth shut. I like putting other people in their place when they're disrespectful, it makes my day. Don't get me wrong, I'm always sincere about it. There are moments when I can be crude and direct. Some people hate me for calling it how I see it, other people love my candor, but I can never be anything other than true to myself and what I believe in. I truly believe that honesty is the best policy, in every regard. If my girlfriend is fat, I'm going to tell her to her face. If my boss is disrespectful/ incompetent, I will tell him/her to their face. Because which would I rather have, a fat girlfriend and an incompetent boss? or a fit girlfriend and a competent boss? Make sense? You don't get anywhere by keeping your mouth shut.

When I was in my early twenties I wouldn’t have said anything to be honest, but it did lead me to just finding a new job and quitting without notice. I got a verbal warning for calling off too much but I had turned in the proper paperwork for what I could work, they approved it and then just disregarded it. So I left after working there almost 3yrs. The next job the manager was awful and I did the same thing. I’ve been with the same company for 8yrs and have had both good and bad managers. This one of my manager does something that bothers me I talk to them about it, but in the case of a manager where it wasn’t getting resolved I just went to HR for clarification on policies. Usually we were both right and wrong for different reasons and it would get resolved that way. So no I don’t really regret not telling them off lol, I just quit and let them deal with the stress of not having enough staffing. That was my FU and I’m more successful than quite a few of them now

Just make sure you have something to gain when you do it. In America we have a website called "indeed". That's where employees (past or present) can go on and post a review of the company they work/worked for. Go on there and name him by name, and tell everyone what he did. His boss will fire his ass.

I don't think I have regretted not telling people off. I believe in almost every case where I want to tell somebody off, keeping my mouth shut is more intelligent. It leads to fewer consequences and punishments if people do not know what you think of them.

I did criticize my old boss for mockery, an ex for micro cheating, another for flirting with a guy in front of me, and my family members for unleashing their anger. Now I have no job and no relationship, but at least everything is okay with family members.

I think it really depends on the situation, but in any case I always find myself thinking of the best response 2 minutes after the interaction anyway.

If it's a repeated instance and I feel like someone needs to say something, I don't mind being the one to do it. I usually let first-instances slide cos I don't like confrontation if it's not necessary. Depends on what they've done though.

I used to keep everything bottled up inside me when I was younger. When I hit 25 years old, when I had something to say I said it. I wasn't disrespectful but I told them how I felt.
When I asked my boss for a raise and he told me to stand on a 2x4 , I told him he's a cheapskate. After the 3rd time asking for a raise and he refused, I bent over, dropped my pants and told him to kiss my ass goodbye because I quit.

Oh, there have been a few that I would like to have vented on. But, what would I really have gained? One I have to deal with every week at a particular volunteer effort, but the benefit of the effort to others outweighs my having to deal with an overbearing idiot for a few hours.

I have a limit and when reached my tounge flies.(I'm pretty level headed and calm but when I've reached my limit I don't give two fucks at all.) It has gotten me praise and I have also suffered the consequences of this. It has gotten me fired among other things. I think a balance of the two is ideal. Pick and choose your battles if possible.

I actually get in hot waters for telling what I think is right thing to do (95%) and it's not always people are happy about what I have to say but I think of it like this.
If I say the right thing and they talk to me then they are good but when I don't speak my mind and still end up not talking then I am more upset why I didn't talk

Sometimes I allow my mind to fantasize about that. But then again, I will stop myself and take comfort in knowing that I’m happy and content. I don’t want to disrupt my peace for someone who honestly has their own issues to work out. I hope they figure it out one day:)

Not really, those types of people tend to be the ones that get it worse in the end. I am a firm believer in karma - what goes around comes around. I just don't care to stoop to their level and try to take the high road.

I don't think I regret it because you can really alienate a lot of people by doing things like that, but there have definitely been times when I wonder if alienating the person would have been worth it.
