If we want honesty and integrity, why do adults force apologies and hugs from children?

I find this so contradicting. We're a society where we demand more people to have values, to be decent humans with honesty and integrity. We're always preaching about how an apology only counts if it comes from the heart.

Yet, there are adults (mainly parents and teachers) that make the child give out an obvious insincere hug and apology. They end up doing it in a bad mood, do it fast just to get it over with or might not even look at the person in the eyes. A couple of the parents that are still into corporal punishment, even threaten the kid with a belt or other household implements if they don't apologize and hug the person. Sometimes the very person receiving the fake apology and hug might even find it super annoying since it lacks honesty and sincerity.

Why do adults do that if we're always preaching about honesty and integrity?
