If a single mother raises a son and he becomes violent or criminal, people blame the absence of a male role model. But if a boy is raised by both parents and still turns out violent or criminal, people blame the father for “not teaching him properly.” How can it be the father’s fault when the child was raised solely by a single mother and therefore couldn’t have been taught “toxic masculinity” by him? And in both situations — single mother or two-parent household — why isn’t the mother also seen as responsible for teaching her son the right behaviour?

Just another way of male bashing. I'm so tired of hearing how everything is the males fault. If a male child is raped by a female he must have done something to provoke it, or he's lucky. Really? How can sexual assault be lucky? If it's a girl again the male is wrong.
Because mothers cannot teach a son how to be a man. And most single mothers teach their kids to hate their fathers.
Societal norms, traditional gender roles.
