What is the MAIN Reason for Walking Your Dog?

Dog owners often take their dog for a walk. If you own a dog, what is the MAIN reason you take your dog for a walk? Please vote in the poll and tell us your story.

Well, the main reason is that she’s an absolute terrorist, and she would drive us to tinnitus and insanity in short order. When she decides it’s time to go…. WE’RE GOING. She just goes absolutely psycho, lmfao, there is no alternative.

But the unpressured reasons are multiple. We do 60-90 minutes every day, and when things time out right, I’m still in my intermittent fasting window. It’s helped me trim down about 20 lbs in 4-5 months, just casually walking the dog and waiting to eat until late afternoon.

But it’s great exercise for her, too. And even more, I understand that the real stimulation for them is sniffing scents. She mostly leads the walks, I just turn us around when it’s time to start heading back. It’s the absolute highlight of her day, though, and it makes me happy to facilitate that.

Her original rescue owner, my girlfriend’s mother, suddenly passed away right after Thanksgiving last year, and she was despondent. But she clearly chose me to be the succeeding “person”, and I don’t take that lightly.

I wouldn’t have chosen the role, from a responsibility/burden standpoint…I’m not really a “dog guy.” The funeral home that handled everything was very cool and, not to be morbid, let me bring her to see the body, just so she’d understand where her owner went. She sniffed her, looked a little confused, then seemed like she wanted to leave. I took her outside and walked her around the neighborhood before we went home, and she seemed very content on the walk. I don’t know, I just feel like we had a moment of understanding, and she was just like “Ok. So it’s you and me now.” So here I am, lmao.

But yeah, I say all that to say, the walks are her greatest source of joy, and what she most looks forward to every day. And I like it as a bonding exercise; it’s our “thing.” I take her into the deep woods on hiking trails, so it’s just like “a man and his dog, out in the wilderness”, haha. I enjoy the forced solitude each day.

Now we hike mountains and she just looks bored when we get to the peak. She’s a rugged little pup, she off-roads well😂

The something else choice and it would be all of them. Sure you would have to let the dog out to go to the visilties but there's more to life than just using it. My dog lives going outside so unless it's raining we go out in the backyard and she plays. She likes to chase after birds and squirrels and the occasional cat the Braves to venture over the privacy fence.

Naturally we've had to reduce the time we spend out there to 20 to 30 minutes because of the heatwave that's been going on here in East Texas most all summer long.

Cece goes out about 4 or 5 times a day. Sometimes she wants to stay out when I'm ready to go in but not so much lately because of the heat.

To walk around girls at the park they love dogs, especially small cute ones. You can get your girlfriend that way. Me and my brother took this little tiny dog by my house where there’s a lot of lights and it was very popular. They had big crowds and I took my sisters lap dog and we had girls all around us easy to get a girlfriend like that. This was a long time ago,

To me, it's socializing with them, adding the practical details of toilet business and exercise. Where actually THEY walk ME... I let them decide about the 'program of the day'. Sometimes it's just around the corner; sometimes it's splashing around in the nearby quarry pond.

Apparently in my neighborhood it's to get your dog to shit and piss on other people's lawns. Fence your own yard and let your dog shit and piss on your own landscaping and grass.

Enrichment. They exercise themselves enough playing outside all day but its good to keep taking them to different places so they can explore, sniff around, and say hello to other dogs.
