He never contacts me, yet is super happy whenever he sees me?

Why would a guy never try to text/message/call a girl when he seems really happy to see her and knows she wants him to contact her?

We have a weird past of being friends/hooking up. We haven't hung out in forever and it's only really recently that he's seeing another girl.

Even so, he always seems really happy when he sees me. Like, he'll always hug me tight even when I'm not moving in for a hug, he'll start conversation, flirt/tease me, notice things about me, and one time (he might have been a little drunk, but I'm not sure because I was drunk) he even kissed me on the cheek when he hugged me.

Thoughts on what's going on in this guy's head? Why wouldn't he want to hang out when he likes my company?

Funny, this was the same with me except mine was an online affair. He never initiated those conversations but was really nice once they got started. He claimed he wanted to see me but never officially asked me out. And then I saw him out with someone, so I guess he knows how to ask a girl out, right! Trust me it has nothing to do with him being shy or bad at texting or liking face to face contact. It just simply means he's not interested and I know that's hard to hear but its the truth. Now you could take matters in your own hands and pursue him, and I'm sure he'll oblige you, but why be with someone who didn't really make an effort to be with you? Why be with someone who is settling? Chances are he might date you but it will all end and you would have been with him to what end? Think of it this way, if he really wanted you, he would be with you right now and not with someone else. Forget about him, he's not worth it. And try not to be too available to his advances, because technically he's using you...

He sounds exactly like a guy I used to be interested in. He very rarely initiated contact, which made me think that he wasn't interested at all. But at the same time, like your guy, he would be super into me whenever we met up. He also started seeing another girl.
So from my experience, he doesn't want to pursue a relationship with you. He might not even want to date you casually. He just likes having you around. If you openly show him that you like him, it gives him an ego boost and validation.

Oh, and him seeing someone else + never initiating is a pretty good indicator that he's not interested enough in you. :/ So you should probably move on from this guy and find someone who actually wants to spend time with you and shows it by initiating.

Thanks for your opinion, this guy is just making me so confused... but I think I have a pretty good idea of where I have him. But there's no possibility that he'd be up for going back to being friends?

Don't buy it, lol. I think that when guys do this, they might like us, but not enough to put us first. I think he likes you so you can try to see how much and find out lol

Some people just aren't big on texting and phones. I'm not. He might also just not want to bother you too much. Maybe he doesn't realize how much you want to talk or that you care very much about him. There's nothing wrong with YOU taking some initiative and contacting him more often. I kinda missed that part about him dating. That could have a lot to do with it but who knows how that relationship might turn out? Maybe he's interested in you on some level or subconsciously.
