I HATE the Met Gala, and here's why...

The Met Gala is one of the most prestigious and exclusive events in the fashion industry. Hundreds of the most famous, and richest celebrities attend the annual event, and it's all to raise money for the Costume Institute.

In my opinion, it is THE dumbest, biggest waste of time, money, and resources there is. I'm honestly ashamed to be living in a world where something dumbass event like this exists.

Tickets for this event are $35,000 and tables range between $200,000-$300,000. It's fucking INSANE. Just the ticket alone can pay for a year of college education. I honestly can't believe that events like these are praised by people across the world. The event is ridiculously exclusive, and I don't understand at all how anyone can support it.

Let's be frank here, how many of you actually buy designer clothes and wear them on a daily basis? I think I can assume it's not many of you. Most of the designs are so strange that no one in their right mind would wear this shit in public.

What really sets me off is HOW MUCH FUCKING MONEY IS SPENT ON THIS BULLSHIT. Could you imagine how much change all of this money could make in the world? But no, it MUST be spent on the fashion industry, because it's such an important aspect of modern society. If you totaled up all the money raised, I'd bet my life that poverty wouldn't exist. All of this money could be spent bettering the condition of life on earth for those that can't do it themselves. I'm sure starving children all around the world really appreciate this event and everything that comes out of it.

Again, let's be 100% honest, who gives a shit about all this BS anyways? In 10 years time, which is going to matter more? Some event where the only people allowed in are rich as fuck? Or an event where actual change in the world is made? On top of all that, the public isn't even fucking allowed to know what happens after the red carpet? It's a goddamn "secret"!

I can't be the only one who feels this way right? Bullshit like this is what makes me lose hope for the future of the human race.

yeah, too bad everyone in the world won't just work together and pool all their money into one single trusted group and allow them to handle distributing it to whoever needs it the most. lol. That's a level of socialism that nobody should be voting for. People that earn the money, have to have the right to spend it how they see fit, or it discourages innovation, hard work, and any incentive to achieve in this world. Why would anyone try to make more money if they know they'll be required to give it all away? At least with the Met Gala, the people that go, get to have fun and get their media attention while at the same time, donating to charity because the money raised there is donated to whichever groups the Met sponsors.
But look at what happened in Venezuela. The United States sent truck loads of food and medical supplies and the dictator stopped it from being delivered to his people. So clearly it's not just about wasting money. If the leaders of the world deny the money to be used to help their people, what are we supposed to do?

1. The ticket prices are that high because that's how they raise the money they donate. And these people can easily afford it. I don't know why it's a big deal.

2. Obviously no one would wear those costumes for a walk in the park. But these clothes aren't meant to be practical. It's a form of art. Designers get the chance to give their creativity full rein.

3. So people aren't allowed to raise money for anything other than starving children? It's not like just because someone attents this event they only ever donate to this charity cause. Besides, it also part of the business to be seen at these kind of events. It's their work. They don't have to care for the cause. Eventhough I think there is nothing wrong with caring about art.

2) what's the point of wasting all these resources then? you should watch the documentary on netflix about fast fashion, and how it destroys the environment and then come talk to me.
3) when did i mention that celebrities were only donating to this? obviously i know there are many other organizations that are actually trying to do some good in the world.. answer this: what good is this art doing for people? what impact is it having on them? why does it fucking matter? no one is gonna give a shit in a year anyways, because by then, it will be out of style

I agree with you. It's a terrible waste of money and shows extreme opulence/hoarding/greed. Sell one of those dresses and you could buy farm machinery for a poor village where babies are dying. A dress is just not worth that to me.

Still, I think it's nice to have some beauty in the world and to express that through fashion and the arts, although I don't think this is what that is. I'd love to see more clothes that were activism based.

I highly doubt this will fix the human heart which is the bigger issue. Can't anything when we ALL are too busy telling each other what to do and "judging" which is all we do... every day of the week.

You can not just take the money and feed starving children. It won't work that way. What will happen is you'll get to the country with the starving children and you'll be met by a war lord and his guerrilla band. They will stick machine guns in your face and take the money. They will party it up and live like kings, for a few months. you may or may not survive the encounter. What you don't know is that they made sure the children were starving in the first place so that someone like you would see it and come and bring them money. It's never as simple as it seems. Let those clowns dress like clowns , frolic around , let the billionaires be entertained by it. They've got more many than they know what to do with. Someone is making a buck driving the taxis, cooking the food, sewing the clown clothes and so on. Why put those people out of work?

Wealthy people festivities. Most have their own organizations and donate big time like Rihanna! If you’re contributing to society I don’t see an issue. Plus fashion is an industry and new talented designers some college kids can get their chance to shine.
