There is something that has often annoyed me when men and women alike talk about breasts, and that is that they just refer to cup sizes. “Oh, I’m a D cup” “I’m only an A cup” etc etc. What people don’t seem to realize is that cup size is irrelevant without the band size being mentioned as well. The band is how many inches around your underbust is, and the cup size is your over bust measurement minus the underbust measurement. Each inch of difference correlates to a letter. A= 1 inch, B= 2 inches, C= 3 inches, and so on.
For instance, my underbust measures 26 inches around, so my band size is 26. My over bust measures 33 inches around, which is a difference of 7 inches. Therefore my bra size would be 26G. If I went around saying I had G cups, it would sound like I have huge boobs, but when you take into account my very small band measurement of 26 inches, it’s really not that big.
This brings me to my next point: Sister sizing.
Sister sizing refers to wearing bra sizes with bigger bands than actually fit perfectly to your rib cage measurement with corresponding cup measurements. For instance, my true size is a 26G, but that is impossible to find unless I want to order all my bras online. To remedy this, I use sister sizing to help me get bras that fit me well even though the band isn’t exact.
A 26G has the same amount of breast tissue as all of the following sister sizes: 28F, 30E, 32D (the size I usually wear), 34C, 36B, and a 38A.
I hope one day, people will eventually stop referring to their breast size with only the cup, because as you can see, cup size on its own means nothing.
