The second pic or I guess third pic that says Redman, she is really thin... Was she added for a comparison?
It's fine that they're getting more spotlights in the press. That being said, the first 4 models aren't even plus size. They're skinny or average. Is skin and bone/anorexic looking the norm?
in the modelling industry average women, like a size 8 is plus size
The first few models are just bad picks. There are plenty of bikini models like them and have been for years.
It's good to have them as they can give good fashion approach to "plus sized" girls but we cannot deny what TheSpartan said.
Great, more fat acceptance to encourage fat people to not do anything about their weight problems.
It's not condoning obesity. It's promoting the fact that size 0 is not normal for women to achieve when their bodies aren't designed that way. The fashion industry has VERY strict standards and some women will starve themselves to maintain a unheayweight just to keep their job. Did you know Victora Secret models are considered plus size models? Eating disorders are not just applied to obesity, they include people starving themselves or binge eating and throwing up. Society and the media is selling unrealistic goals for weight. Everyone is different and some people will be heavy than others but it's not obesity.
I never said these women were obese. I was scouted for modelling about 6 months ago. At the time i was very tall and slender verging on underweight (19 bmi) I was encouraged to try and obtain a more athletic build which involved daily running and going to the gym a lot. I ate more than i used to eat in order to gain muscle. Currently I am 16, 6 foot 1 inch and weighing just over 12 stone. I feel better about my body because im no longer considered lanky. Im much fitter. All in all i have upgraded my life considerably. Why should we all strive perfection or near to it?
do you think skinny is healthy? you have a lot of understanding to do.
Did i ever say that? I said modelling encouraged me to put on weight and become more healthy. If i was overweight i would not be so.
I don't know why people are down voting..
@idontneedAname Yes. From a scientific standpoint it is. It's an undeniable fact. However, skinny as in underweight is bad. Skinny is healthy if your diet is in check. Don't perpetuate ignorance.
So thick that everybody else in the room is so uncomfortable...
Seriously, enough of the cottage cheese legs and asses, and the advocacy of laziness. The only time that women can be justifiably fat is when they are pregnant. Promotion of the "love your body" ideal just makes people less motivated to stay healthy. Scientifically speaking, obese women have a much higher chance of having strokes/heart attacks. Not to mention, general mobility is certainly hindered; how is a fat woman going to ever run/walk as efficiently as a skinnier woman? Basic physics shows that it is much harder for obese women to do basic tasks such as walking and running.
Unless you've been diagnosed with some sort of thyroid gland problem or some other metabolism problem, then you have no right to laze around all day eating chips. Some may argue that they have a naturally "lower" metabolism than supermodels, and that life is unfair, but the truth is that the majority of skinny people, especially supermodels, actually do intensive exercise to build/maintain that hourglass figure that everyone yearns for.
There is a huge difference between being bulky and just being downright fat. Healthy human beings should at least have a teensy bit of muscle.
Fat-shaming falls into the same category as smoker shaming: "here you can see a smoker's lungs, while over here you can see a non-smoker's lungs." "The difference is monumental."
Fat-shaming may cause a lot of uproar, but at the end of the day, all it is doing is condemning unhealthy lifestyles, EXACTLY like how cigarette companies are required to explain how their products will be extremely detrimental to your health. Also, fat-shaming condemns self-indulgence, particularly indulging in lack of exercise, and indulging in fatty/unhealthy foods, just like how cigarette companies have warning messages on boxes saying that "SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH, AND WILL GIVE YOU CANCER."
See the relationship? Although the content of the ideas is quite different, conceptually, there is virtually no difference between the two. Both of the problems are based on choice, and the cigarette analogy is a perfect example of the "choice vs I was born that way" idea.
Now, I'm basically shitting on obese women, by saying that it is a lifestyle choice, just like anorexia is. If you are obese for the sake of "respecting your body", then you are being a nonconformist to the scientifically established healthy lifestyles that society has clearly observed over the years. There is a time and place to be a maverick or a rebel to society, but when it comes to weight, then trying to be a nonconformist is just stupid. You think that it's all about subverting the system, but the system will NEVER be subverted, as the basis of the system is saying that you will fucking die earlier if you carry on your unhealthy lifestyle. Good looks are a bonus, but the whole reason that people will never respect fat people is because they know that it is unhealthy. Fullstop. I'm not even going to talk about looks, but morbidly obese people need to stop trying to be rebellious for the sake of being "special" in a BAD WAY. You are just showing people that you are unhealthy!
I agree with you! Smart guy :)
Actually, the whole "love your body" thing inspired me to become fitter and healthier, because I felt that I was sabotaging my self-love by overeating. It's been scientifically proven that people who love their bodies and then start to get healthy lose more weight and quicker, and will keep the weight off more often than those who hate their bodies and go on a diet because of that. You might think that spilling your hate motivates people to get healthy, but in fact it will only make them hate themselves more, and what do a lot of overweight people do when they hate themselves? Overeat.
Btw: anorexia isn't a lifestyle choice, it's a mental disease. Pro-ana might seem like a lifestyle choice, but rather they're the ones in denial about their mental disease and choose to see it as a lifestyle choice.
Your hating gets you nowhere honey, it will only make people more miserable and overeat.
I agree, I hate the body positive initiative, all it does is pass off over weight unhealthy lazy people as "beautiful"
@Mongo112323 women don't have to be skinny or slim to be found attractive. I think some people forget that the media and fashion industries dont just cater for skinny to slim women. Or to suit your preferences. Well you've certainly picked the right username. Lol!
I'm not really picky, when you're a fucking loser who women won't even give the time of day to, you gotta take what you can get.
I see this shit and then movements like the "dad bod" get criticized
Let me guess. Criticized by women? It's a terrible double-standard.
most "plus sized" models aren't even plus sized there are normal sized
Lol. It's always has been and always will be tall and thin girls :/ that's life. It won't change
I pretty much agree. People love looking at perfect things and that won't ever change. The plus-sized industry is a huge hypocritical feminist circle-jerk. Feminism today has lost it's original purpose for the most part.
Don't girls love to stare at tall muscular men? Oh, they do? No no no! That's wrong! That's sexualization! That's exploitation! They should be happy with a male model with a beer body because guys 'can be healthy at any size' just like girls. Now THAT would be true feminism.
I just wish the norm wasn't so hard for someone like me to live up to. I'm 5'4 :I There's no plastic surgery for height.
I really couldn't care less. I'm not retarded enough to let this shit bother me.
If Danielle Redmond and that Inga one are plus sized I must be the size of a barn - just saying.
Half of those aren't even plus size models !
Models are there modelling clothes first and foremost, themselves secondarily.
it's fine as long as they are healthy
They're not though. Not the obese models.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
With Sports Illustrated getting its first plus size model on the cover, I do believe that plus size is the new "perfect" supposedly
Please, no more fat rolls and obesity!
It's not cute, it's not sexy and it's NOT HEALTHY!
The 'plus sized' models look great.
The bloggers could lose a few pounds though.
When models are referred to as "plus sized" I think it just means not anorexic...
Whereas I think some self identified plus sized women use it as euphemism.
I like big asses and so do most guys
Definitely.
They should have obese models aka costum fitted models lol
