Peer pressure makes everything toxic. So many sources are telling people, especially women, they need to look a certain way. It’s terrible, and sometimes feels like a strategy to make a higher majority of women attractive enough to be useful in businesses that use great beauty to make a better profit, and perhaps for men making more guys suitable for things like sports. Who knows.
I agree its society. But in my case, I've gained a lot if weight (20 pounds) and its definitely affected my self esteem. I hate myself but in a way I hope thisll motivate me to lose some weight and get healthier
I myself worry about my looks only because my mom, my sister where beauty queens. So they always called me fat for decades. Even sometimes they both weighed more than me. My family cares more about image then anything else
Women are dumb and can't think for themselves so it's no surprise. Men took charge in ww2 and ww1 and governed the countries for years and years women didn't so it's not shock they lack the ability to think independently and say hmm maybe this whole thing is stupid like us men with the genes for taking charge.
Actually, it is media and something else. Media for it part has made people look at things from more real than reality perspective. The other thing is people especially some women making other women feel inferior just to get the man they want. They have this man's race like the arms race. Nobody knows who will win but they will talk down to other girls like they are nothing. Narcissists
My opinions on the matter is that it is a bunch of crap. Western countries are slated to become 90% overweight by 2030, so it's clear that the majority of people don't give the slightest shit about the way they look like.
All of it. My insecurities first started with familial pressure, at like the age of 11, even though I wasn't fat. Then once I saw the women in the media, it made it worse.
Everybody should love him/her self. BUT being fit is generaly sexy. It is sexy because it is hard to achive. Being fat/chuncky/over weight etc. and doing anything about it its not sexy, it is lazynes. Im not saying that you should be ashamed if you dont have the "perfect" body, but dont make lazzynes sexy, as long as your trying to improve yourself, working out or Just trying to eat better its alright. But yes media is deffinetly puting some pressure on us about body image.
There are two reasons women are obsessed with body image: (1) men are visually stimulated creatures, and they want to attract us, and (2) they have a need to be wanted/ desired, which entails them being visually appealing.
I think it's pretty much just their fellow women dragging them down. Women treat each other like shit, to be honest. They are all just insecure and weirdly envious of each other.
I get treated better and get put on a pedestal often by guys. People are more tolerant to my flaws. That contributes to why I feel pressure to keep up with my appearance and I don’t want to be seen as ugly
I think if women want to look similar to conventional beauty standards, they need to put in the effort to improve their appearance by working out and eating healthy. Most rant about how they feel pressure and insecure but don’t put in the effort. It doesn’t make sense and if they don’t want to put in that much effort, stop complainingg and feeling horrible about their looks
They are wired to be desired, as part of reproduction. for some it may be they don't want it, but media does propagate and train it. some rebel, most succumb.

It's nice to see some women responding here and not blaming men for this problem. That's encouraging, but sadly there are still a lot who say this problem is men's fault, when of course it is not. The false victim mentality instilled in almost all females runs very deep.
I would very much be same as you but there seems to be something latent there exasperated by media, celebrity and peer pressure. Just look at the "Rate Me" questions on the internet
I honestly don’t have a problem with the current body image standards. Most of them are healthy, look at some of the most beautiful women today, they for the most part are a healthy size. Everyone should strive for health.
The biggest distribution of people are in the centre of the bell curve, so it makes sense that they feel under scrutiny - they have a lot of peers. I think the problem is that if it's a career choice most models will conform - if it's a statement most models won't.

You really think WE'RE obsessed with body image? The media certainly is, but not women.

I've been obsessed with body image forever. I think some people are just hyper aware.
I can literally pick out minute flaws on anyone and everyone, i def. do the same with myself
Why are men obsessed with making money, killing themselves in shitty jobs?
Because everyone pays the price, we are all slaves to our roles.
