Would you wear a black dress to your Engagement Party?

Question

Bearing in mind I'm only 4'10 a lot of dresses I like are too long. The first dress was suggested but it's not really me. Showing a lot of leg and cleavage at the same time kinda looks trashy to me, I think you should show one of the other. If anyone has any ideas please post.

I wouldn't wear a black dress, this is supposed to be a happy day. Wear something more colourful! Like red, blue, green... ir if you want to wear black maybe choose something that is two coloured? Like this one maybe?

the style depends on what you are planning for this day. If it something more family like and less formal then you can wear whatever you feel comfortable and yourself with.
If it is a more formal setting then you could wear something accordingly to it.

No because in Christianity, the colour black is associated with funerals. In general, black is not the best colour to wear in happy occasions. Black is either for sadness or for the office. There are many other beautiful colours to choose from. Otherwise, people will just backbite. Choose light pink or red. In my culture, brides wear red. I looked at the second dress and I think that dress would look amazing in a different colour like light pink or red.

I like black so yeah I'd wear it. And I love when girls wear black.

I prefer short dress more, it looks sexy (not trashy). It would look better if you're 4-10". But second one is good too and you could definitely pull it off it right size. First one is more sexier though.

Relate my fellow shortie. I had to wear super high heels for long gowns to look good on me. I love empire cut gowns though makes me look taller.

The short dress is also nice tbh but yeah it does show a lot. You could wear a see-through lace over it so it's a bit more conservative but sexy

don't know what an engagement party is,
but if i were to cloth myself the way i like,
it would be no different from how i would
choose to cloth myself for any other
traveling day. tshirt and a long peasant skirt
or a gypsy style skirt. long flows in the wind,
and covering all the way to the ankles.

i wouldn't be seen dead wearing those
styles of clothing. it's always about comfort,
never about fanciness

I agree, the first one shows a bit much. If it was for a night out with the girls it would be fine I think but an engagement Party is a different thing.

The second one is elegant and more appropriate for such an occasion... particularly if the first one isn't really you.

Yes I agree the first dress is a bit trashy, it shows too much skin. The second dress is pretty, but it's kind of the opposite... too covered. It only shows the arms. I suggest something in the middle. Like a long backless dress, or a knee lenght dress that covers your cleavage.

Wear high heels to extend your legs for longer dresses.

Honestly, it depends on the degree of formality. There's a reason the "little black dress" is a staple in most women's wardrobes. Nevertheless, sometimes something seasonal or or even dress slacks can work.

As for your height, there are these people called, seamstresses. It's their chosen profession to make length and size adjustments in the things you wear, but that don't quite fit you.

Stick with a monochrome color scheme whether it’s black or other color. Same color head to tie gives illusion of more height. Yes, heels but not so high that you can’t walk in them.

First dress is to revealing for that occasion and in my opinion.

Second one looks more for funeral to me, then for that occasion.
