Why are chokers seen as sexual?
I think the simpler ones are cute, but I don’t wanna come off like that.
I think it's both due to its current reputation and because they highlight an erogenous zone without blocking access to it.
From wikipedia's history section:
(around since ancient sumeria)
"Historically, it was associated with high fashion, but could take on different meanings under different circumstances. In 1798, during the French Revolution, women wore red ribbons around their necks to pay homage to those who met their death at the guillotine.[3]The ribbon could be worn around the neck, or another fashion came in the form of an X around the shoulders and back.[4]
Ballerinas and the upper class in the late 19th century commonly wore certain types of chokers. However, at that same time, the late 19th century, a plain, thin, red, or black ribbonchoker had ties to prostitution, as seen in Manet's Olympia (1861).
The 19th century fashion for broad chokers reached its peak around 1900 in part due to Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom wearing one to hide a small scar.[5] Chokers were popular into the 1920s and again in the '40s as colliers de chien.[3] In particular, the term dog collars or colliers de chien caught on, and these designs – incorporating luxe diamonds, pearls, lace, and velvet – could be seen as objects of the elite because the best kinds were custom-made to fit one's neck perfectly.[6][failed verification] In 1944 Lifemagazine stated that "a dowager fashion of 40 years ago" was being revived by young women, illustrating the trend with photos of models wearing the now vaguely rebellious "dog collars"."
Personally, I think partly it's because chokers are prevalent in the BDSM/S&M community (not the style above of course), so therefore people tend to associate them with some kind of sexuality, "kink", or dominance/submission thing, which I think is dumb AF. 🙄 Even though it is not sexual, and holds no sexual meaning whatsoever for the VAST majority of people who wear them, the socially stereotypical "kinky" implied nature of it (that some people like to associate with it) becomes sort of its own meme in people's minds of what a choker is and what it "means" to wear one. But I think it's very misguided and lacking in understanding.
For instance, I actually wear a choker, but it isn't some sexual, "kinky" or silly dominance/submission thing for me. At all. The one I wear was made for me by a very dear friend and is woven out of natural materials with three stones in it that holds a spiritual meaning for me, which is why I choose to wear it.
So yeah, chokers are by no means somehow explicitly sexual in nature by default. Again, the vast majority of people who wear them don't associate them with sexuality or sexual expression. Unfortunately, I believe it's just a small fraction of people who society has associated and defined its meaning with.
I also forgot to add: I think despite what anyone may have to say about it that you should do YOU, and not worry about what others "might" think. Life is too short to live toward the perceptions and expectations of others. Only YOU know what is right for you, so if you want to wear one, go for it! 🙂 Nothing is better in life than living it for yourself first, and not for anyone else. If you like it, wear one and rock it with confidence! 👍
I don't know, i think they can look good. I sometimes wear them because they look good with some outfits, i don't like being chocked, I am not sleeping around or anything anyone would come up with about chokers
I have no idea!! The choker I bought is also a really cut dainty one... It's so pretty. Why would anyone think that it's sexual?
Cute*
I've never seen a dog being collared with lace or gold chain though

Chokers are basically used in BDSM, ofcourse not the one in the pic, its a necklace, but in general that's what are chokers used, and thus its seen as sexual.
Type on google chockers for BDSM, and you'd get the idea.
In the end everything has its own meaning, and not everyone would like, search for the meaning of it... same goes to songs, for example sometimes we would love a track so much, but later after being laughed on, it would have a certain meaning against what we were thinking about it...
Because chokers/neck ribbons have historically been worn by prostitutes to let people know that they are prostitutes.
There is also a popular belief that to be able to wear a choker comfortably, you need to have a weak gag reflex, and if you have a weak gag reflex "it's probably because you deepthroat a lot".
Because chokers kind of look like dog collars, which some can associate with submission or kinks.
And various other assumptions.
And, well, since there *are* certain connotations connected with wearing chokers, a woman who is willing to wear a choker regardless, is inevitably going to come across as someone who does not care about coming across a certain way.
No. Especially not the one in the picture. Chokers are just plain hot. It's really nice accessory for a beautiful woman. other than enhancing her attractiveness I don't think it makes any sexual statements like she's down to f*** or she's into bdsm or anything else.
Chokers draw attention to the neck. The neck is a sensitive area that is often stimulated during foreplay aka an "erogenous zone". Wearing certain types of chokers (like the ones that more closely resemble a collar than a necklace) may also suggest that the woman is into being submissive.
These are some reasons why chokers might be seen as a sexual signal. But I don't think a classy looking choker, like the one in the picture, sends a sexual message.
I do not consider chokers to be slut attire. I have seen some women look very classy wearing chokers.
My fought about it is - its related to BDSM in a ways, as its purpose is to choke as the name suggests. The one you've sent doesn't look hoe-ish, it looks more of a fancy neckle rather than a choker. It looks cute (as long as its not some kind of a dog collar it ain't kinky)
Not all chockers are seen as sexual.
1. Chocker in 18 Karat Gold Amethyst and Citrine and White Diamond. (Is not seen as sexual)
2. Leather choker with three rings and large spikes. (Usually seen as sexual but not always)
there was a brief thing in porn where every girl who did anal wore a choker. I probably saw all of those videos and now the association is permanently fixed in my mind.. Absolutely no reason for it, but there it is..
Anything is seen as sexual if the one looking head is filled with lust to be honest. 😂
he is right
It's a feeling. It's not real but real to our minds. When we see chokers we think and feel closeness around our neck. For some it's sexy for others it might just feel unsettling
As a straight guy, I like the colonial chokers on women yet again I love that era.
Plus I like wearing chocker my self... reminds me need to make a new one
It reveals more about the interpreter than the choker interpreted.
People view everything as sexual these days, I think it is mostly because that is almost all they ever think about.
guys enjoy seeing us wear them as they are tight and restricted which makes guys feel dominant around girls
its like high heels.. they just look hot as fuck. and they are called "chokers" we guys hear every girl we get close to say it
It might give off the appearance of a dog collar which usually shows submissiveness. Some psychology type stuff.
It could have something to do with the history of chokers themselves. Back in the early days prostitutes would wear chokers to show they were available. So if I had to guess it chokers being looked at as sexual probably stems from that.
They were sexualized with blowjobs in the 90's. My father would say things like if she wears a choker she gives good head. 😂
I think it's because of how the stereotypical prostitutes wear them but I'm not certain
I don't think anyone would call someone wearing that thing hoe-ish because of that.
