I used to hate my butt when I was 13 because I thought it was ugly. I wasn’t fat but Horse riding made it perkier so I couldn’t wear leggings. No matter how much my mom and friends kept telling me that it was pretty I was really ashamed of it, and would do anything to reduce it, especially that I had big boobs, because of my hourglass figure so it made it worse.

But even after that I was still really ashamed of my body, because I was a kid on a curvy woman’s body, and it’s really aweful.

I had a baby face so despite my body I clearly looked my age, but I was attracting the perverted guy’s attentions, and I was jealous af when I see a teenage girl with smaller curves than me, while I was a pre-teen.

I'm 24. I grew up with Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Anisto, Selena Gomez, those blonde twins (forgot their name).
None had a big butt. Actually I grew up with the idea of big butts being bad. My little sister was always insecure about it because people would tell her she has a fat butt in a negative way. It was all about the long legs, skinny body, tall, big boobs in the early 2000s.

It all changed with the Kardashians in 2009. That's when big butts and thickness became THE thing.

Proportionally-large rear ends in women are supposed to be indicative of wide hips and high levels of estrogen, both biological indicators of fertility and high likelihood of reproductive success. I don't get the "impression" that society thinks women with phat asses are hot on a whim or as a matter of statistical coincidence, that we randomly decided that large female behinds--out of all the markers of arousal--are "for some reason" uniquely attractive, therefore, they became desirable. I get the impression that people's physical appearances are supposed to signal their sexual viability as mates. Exaggerated features are just that--exaggerated, but they do serve a function. To assume they are merely ornamental is missing the forest for the trees.

The big butt craze is media driven.

Look at all the models for generations before "plus size modeling" became a thing. None of those women had big asses. It wasn't until the modeling industry began to be attacked because most women don't look like models that "plus size modeling" grew.

Meanwhile, through in the growth of rap videos featuring black women (who often do have a distinctly shaped larger butt) along with the increasing ethnic diversity in America that larger butts entered the public consciousness. This question is interesting. It is nearly completely geared to get the attention. Sexual topic, attractive woman in the post picture, and a question with such a shallow depth that a jar of pond scum could give a answer.

Good thing I'm pond scum so here's my answer 😕. Yes on average most men like big buts on women. Though more precisely they like good hip to waist ratios. It is a sign that there would be less complications with having children and of her overall health.

When I was a teen in the 80s, big butts weren't the in thing - Khardashians were not the trend, it was small-to-medium bubble butts mostly.

The "urban"/hip-hop influence has taken over a big part of pop culture in the last 15-20 years, and big butts have become a much bigger trend. It's still not my thing though.

I noticed a shift towards big butts.

In the 90's pretty much any female pop singer, had a small booty. 'Baby got Back' came out in 92 and the trend steadily grew until 2014 when Nicki Minaj released 'Anaconda'. In other words, it took 22 years for big butts to reach their peak popularity. Plastic butts are somewhat common now, which is why I think the trend is on the decline.

I never got the impression that 'big' (oversized) butts were good. Curvy figures and nice, round butts were good. In a sense, a woman's butt does look big compared to her waist if she has a nice figure. But that's different from some of the huge asses and monster thighs that are popular in some circles these days.

I've loved a thick, curvy big booty since puberty. 😂 It popularized to other cultures when Beyonce and J-lo were at their peak between 2000 and 2005 (the music, modeling, and acting.) Growing up when I was younger, I always got the impression that smaller butts were more popular (but this may have just been the opinions of people I was around). It seems like big boobs were more popular at the time as well.

From around the time I was in high school and after, I've noticed that big butts and smaller boobs seem to be more popular now, or at least I hear about quite a few people whose preferences tend to be these.

Growing up, I saw a lot of boys pay more attention to the girls who had bigger butts.
Now I'm 23 and it's very interesting. I grew up around a lot of black men and I've definitely heard more white men disliking big butts.. Which caught me off guard. But I realized some people viewed it as unhealthy? I guess I don't know.

It started in about 2008 and is directly related to hip-hop becoming pop culture instead of rock music, which was pop culture up until about 2006.

Prior to 1992 I would have thought they were a negative thing. Well, that's when the song came out, anyway. But I didn't really hear it until 2001 or something like that. I was very confused by that song. Because I didn't like big butts at all. I honestly still don't really get what the hype is about. Going to high school coming out of puberty 2000-2004 I think people found them attractive but not the same extent they do today.

Some girls did wear yoga, see through pants then which we found were hot. But squatting and wearing yoga pants everywhere weren't the everyday thing like they're today. Now it seems like 50-50 girls have a biggish butt. Back then it might have been 10-20% as a random guess
