Alternatively, if the other problem lies in you still relying on your parents for money to buy things (and they won't buy thongs for you), I recommend asking your dad if you can start doing some extra chores around the house (sweep mop vacuum wash dishes each night, set the table, cook suppers, mow the lawn, shovel the driveway, rake leaves, etc) for some extra allowance money each weekend and quietly save up over a couple of months. Then you can go with your friends and get them yourself instead of having to rely on your mother for everything.
Also maybe you can just talk to your dad and ask him if he can have your back and drop you off at the mall sometime with your friends then pick you up later. He'll be able to convince your prude of a mother to stop getting up in everyone's business a lot easier than you can. And yes, by about grade 8 as a boy I would find it strange if a girl was still wearing beige granny panties past the 2000's. May have been the norm when your mother went to school and what she likes wearing, but it's really strange in the current decade today. Both of the neighbor girls I grew up with (one was a year above me, the other a year below), both started wearing them in grade 7/8). They have great friends, their family is super nice and loving, they aren't raging sluts, both have great boyfriends and the youngest is now married (she's currently 23 I believe) to her high school sweetheart. The world didn't end and they're both really nice, intelligent, and extremely happy people. Hope that helps.
To be perfectly honest, I think that perhaps compromise could be that it's technically okay if you wanna wear one when you're by yourself, but 13 is truly very young. Could easily draw predatory eyes. I personally think you should still be on the road from one pieces to two pieces. Thongs are very expository. If I stretch the line as thin as I can to what you want, I say at the very least wait till you're 16, despite that being very young, you'd look less like a minor, and thus safer from predators, i guess.

Wear what you want. At your age you should be buying your it's clothes. Maybe ask your parents if they can just give you a clothing allowance so you can do that. I did with my daughter. I have her $125/month for clothing and whatever. She was clever and got all her clothing at resale and spent the rest on CDs and books and games.
