Is there really no middle ground for you when I comes to trimming - I'd always assume that's the best option, because if you go low, it won't itch and still look hairless or you if you keep it high and only trim it a little, it'll still be hairy, but not as much.
It depends what you're comfortable with, but I'd be careful with hair removal cream, in general, you're supposed to test it out on a small area of your skin like your hand or arm, in case it doesn't react well with your skin, so using it like that can be risky, I just hope you don't burn yourself or anything.
Ultimately, I'd say hairless out of the options, because if you have athletic legs, removing the hair brings out the muscle definition more, just like it would with other parts of the body, even if you don't have a lot - a little bit biased here too, as I hate body hair in general.
