It's not made for our hair just like some styles are not theirs very simple. Plus each culture has fashion of their own and their own heritage behind it.
@Pink2000 am I wrong or off?
It's not offensive it's common sense. it's one thing if you are in the Caribbean besides that it's ridiculous to think of. Also, I've wore those around my black girl friends and their was no problem because they new it was a innocent, fun, temporary change not for weeks or months being serious about it
I really don’t think it’s an issue until someone makes a mockery of it. I have friends who are white who wear braids and weaves and they love it plus it’s so convenient but you have to be so careful with braids
@Pink2000 I agree that is why you saw me in one wig like that in 3 years.
I'll always wear weaves a lot though miss🌺. I don't care who invented them. Because I love them and they love me
I agree with you babe if you do it's appropriation if you don't it's racist go figure 💁
people are very sensitive nowadays, if you haven't noticed lol
I asked my friend Andy (who is black) whether he thinks white people with dreadlocks is cultural appropriation, he replied “it’s not - it just looks shit”
Tell Andy, his name the origin distribution of the people with the name ANDY is 70.3% White, since we're speaking about dividing BS like this.
WTF is wrong with you humans.
I suppose I understand. I'm Irish and it really irritates me when non Irish people dress up as leprechauns.
Are you saying you dress up as leprechaun 😐
@Киттйлинк Absolutely NOT! My point is that people mock other people by assuming a caricature affectation of that person's race and I believe this is often the case.
so a person with braids is a caricature of black culture is that what you're saying? and if someone wears braids it means they are mocking? that seems rather absurd. I think if someone wears braids it's because they feel they look good in that or else they would not wear it, and not precisely because someone from a particular race wore it.. but rather just simply because they like it.
if I liked leprechaun shoes and wore them it wouldn't mean I'm mocking anyone or trying to be someone else bur rather simply because I liked the weird shoes. unless it's Halloween or something
Everything someone does someone has a opinion on long as you like it and are happy tell everyone else to f off you'll have a better happier life that way
It isn't such a big deal. Who cares what the perpetually offended think about anything? They're going to be miserable no matter what anyway. Do whatever you'd like to your hair.
I love that 2 people disliked this. I think we found a coupe of the miserable perpetually offended folks! LMFAO!
Dreadlocks on white people- dirty. Sorry but that's all people will think. They aren't typically worn by people who use soap on a regular basis.
What are you trying to say?
I'm trying to say that white folk with dreads usually look like they need a good shower. At least the ones you see in the uk living off grid
Do what u what sweetheart. Appropriate all the cultures u want, u'll never get any hate from anyone with any sense. Only crazy people with nothing better to do have a problem with cultural appropriation.
Lots of people are rotten, opinionated, judgmental, and discriminatory. I don't care what other people think, they go to you know where.
acculturation versus appreciation
That's the difference... so it depends and I guess it would behoove anyone to learn the difference and apply the appropriate cultural practices
I think pretty much no one gets offended by this. Maybe one famous person did once and made a stink about it, but no one really cares.
Stupid people do
It is true i see a bunch of right wingers get outraged over the illusion that people are outraged about this. But they get mad about everything these days..
Lol Indians feel Happy if we see someone wearing saree or speak Sanskrit actually more proud.
Both look gorgeous especially 1st one sorry if I am biased 😜 but for me she looks more attractive
It's ugly as fuck and looks so dirty. Dreads must be the worst hairstyle in the world, it's even worse than shaving it all off.
My only problem with dread locks is when they look filthy.
When they look clean they didn’t bother me
i mean its not really a big deal but to some it can appear like they are trying too hard or something
That's bad, I'd feel honored if another culture would represent my culture.
Just tell them to shut up. English is a White language speak swahili or bantu...
People who get upset over people having hair in a style they want are pretty pathetic.
Well I think we (African American women) get upset because, we get called ghetto or people want to discriminate us on the same hairstyles. When a white person has it it’s seen has trendy.
All the insecure girls from different cultures don’t want you to steal all the men. This is just girls competing on a different level 😑
Because some people just have such a sad life that they have nothing better to do other than to tell others how to dress and look
If you like it, do it. Don't be disrespectful about it. Their opinion is irrelevant. Screaming children don't get to decide what conscious adults do.
Victimhood is power.
If one can claim that they're a victim then they tend to use that as power to manipulate another.
It's another form of bullying.
That's all it is, bullying.
I am confused about this too. Recently I heard that wearing big hoop earrings is only ok if you are Latina and that whites should not wear them because it's culturally appropriating latina culture. I don't get it.
It's not a big deal but some people out there make it a big deal and it's really crazy
supposedly it’s cultural appropriation, same as when a black girl bleaches her hair blonde and irons it flat
Black girls can have natural blonde hair lol
@Icecream457 , yes, but not naturally straight
Yes we can. I certainly do. I’m African and I have 3a straight hair lol.
I personally don't think it looks good on them but otherwise it don't really matter 💁
I'm right with you!!
Why is a white girl getting dreads cultural appropriation but, a black girl having her hair straightened is perfectly fine?
I don't know, but it reminds me of Angelina Jolie in Gone In 60 Seconds.
Because your country is in division. American culture influenced by media and politics. Them negros should flee andd stop speaking anglo saxon if they want culture wars. Or as the democrats prefer 'Kulture'
Let's take a moment of silence, and a deep breath to realise... A person who is not Caucasian can be racist 😬. Yep 😬
Are you calling me racist how?
I grew up having friends of all races
It can be a big deal for irrational people, but for a person who values a reality, it is meaningless. You do you.
Yes, I understand what you mean girl. It's not like they're making fun of it, in fact they like it so much that they wanna wear it.
Because any decision you make is opinionated by nature, so there will be always someone who had done differently.
Because everybody should stick with their own culture and white people get offended by that. Can you imagine me in dreadlocks the way I look?
And I’m walking around with my pants hanging down to my knees
Can you imagine me walking in the hood like that I would’ve jumped so fast
Lmao!
😂….
"Pants on the ground. Pants on the ground. Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!!!"
@MudRucker lol That song was going through my head when I wrote this
Every so often when I need a chuckle I watch the video on YouTube
@MudRucker cool
well its kinda trashy, its an inferior person's hairstyle not something smart girls want to wear
but disliking it BECAUSE you're white is just proof they are black supremacists
It’s black supremacy when black people want shit for themselves😂😂😂let a dark skin woman wear blonde hair and see how you bitches act tf up about it
@zariahdp uuuuh yeah wanting something for your race is... black supremacy
that's like the simplest concept ever lol
It's not a big deal, or even a little one, and anyone who puts up a stink over it is an idiot.
Because she looks ridiculous and stupid, not the clothes but the hair.
If someone looks good in a certain style, fine, whatever.
To be perfectly honest I am not even touching this question.
it’s a cultural appropriation kinda disrespectful and damn all these white people in the comment section saying it’s okay🤦🏻♀️y’all don’t have a rights to speak up about this!!! if you’re not poc just shut up
Yes we do. And it is fine.
Breakdancing was invented by black people in New York. Today the best in the world at it are South Koreans. Different cultures give the world different things.
In this case dreadlocks were not even created by black people. So if they use them they are appropriating egyptian culture.
If you're a poc stop wearing white people clothes and doing white people jobs and participating in white people culture. No more European anything for you.
@mreber92 this is so dumb then stop eating poc’s food, stop listening to hip hop rnb n stuff, stop watching movies about poc people colonizers🙄y’all have no culture so y’all like to steal others culture admit it
And what if a black person didn't see a problem with it and thought it was fine? Who are you to speak for a person of color who sees it differently?
(In ancient Greece for example, some of the earliest depictions of dreads date back to 3600 BC. Indeed, frescoes uncovered in Crete, birthplace of the Minoan civilization, and in Thera (modern-day Santorini) show individuals with long braided hairstyles.) sooo who stole what from whom? you can't claim a hairstyle you can claim a clothing sure they mayne currently more culturally entwined in some societies but saying oh she has dreads white girl bad is plain stupid
@jspl90 okay white guy
@ShadezMcgee i may not be black but i’m the part of the poc community so i can speak up for them? tf
@lefleurlotus you're ridiculous. Get over yourself. You're not special.
@lefleurlotus if you are POC then fine, but you better be saying it from your personal beliefs, not all POC as a whole, because not all see it that way.
I personally see no issue with this.
@lefleurlotus sure so did I say anything wrong? cab you dispute what I posted? and funny enough you reaponse is okay white guy😂so can't say anything constructive to depate so you bring in race nice job👌👍
It's not a big deal, do whatever you want. P. S, dreads are not just sub Saharan, also found in Egypt and in Native Americans.
I didn't ever recognize that people would get angry if white girl get dreads. But if you ask me on my opinion, I don't find dreads attractive.
I'm not a fan of dreads but it's not my place to say who should have them and who shouldn't. If someone wants them then more power to them
Because some people just need something to bitch about.
Their lives are so lacking of meaning they will focus on any meaningless thing to fill the void.
They are small little people!!!
There’s nothing wrong with that. If someone is offended tell them to F off. What about all the black girls who have their hair straightened? Aren’t they stealing from Whites.
Not the snow possums speaking on the behalf of Black people.
Yeah well you stop appropriating white culture and we'll stop apropriating your culture.
@devilman666 there is no such thing as yt culture.
Yeah, there are many white cultures, ever heard of Oktoberfest? That's German, aka European, aka white. There are many European cultures, you just don't see it cause you live in the cultural mixing pot that is America.
@devilman666 Learn the difference between ethnicity, race and nationality. Those terms are kicking your ass right now.
Then there is no black culture. Have a nice day.
Because brown people hate white people because you ancestors were too ambitious
Thank you for not being a part of it man.
It really helps to know that some black people see that it's fucked up and choose not to be a part of it.
I understand that it isn't your fault and you can't do anything to stop it any more than I can.
I wish we could all just be equal and get along. Problem is most people will do literally anything to try to shit on someone else and get ahead in life.
@Lost_in_the_Woods yea that’s all white people back then we’re doing just trying to make a living they just stepped on a lot of people to do it what they did wasn’t wrong it was how they went about it
I totally agree. It's the same, and it's disgusting either way.
I'm irish. I'm pretty pale. But what I tell people is that nobody is actually white, nobody is actually black, and half way between the two is grey. You've definitely never seen a grey person.
We're all just different shades of brown. There's no difference between us.
Some people choose to do the right thing, and most people choose not to. It's a universal problem.
U make a lot of sense. I bet that is the reasoning. Wow
@Lost_in_the_Woods it’s still sad though because at the end of the day everyone wants the same thing
It's just "another thing" that white people have commandeered from another culture.
And?
What's your point?
So by your logic, black people who drive cars or have iPhones are racist because they were invented by white people?
I swear people get dumber by the day.
@Lost_in_the_Woods I never said it way "my logic", mr wise guy, nor did I say it was even logical. I gave her a reason that she gets shit for doing it. For example, Rastafarians have always considered dreads and the caring of them to be part of their "religion". Some of them took offense years ago, especially when Bob Marley became popular, that wealthy urban white folks grew dreads just because they like reggae. Extrapolate that, as you may, to other sub cultures.
@MudRucker Read my reply to Lost.
For the record, im so Celtic you probably couldn't pronounce my name if I tried to help you.
They even did their beards.
duckduckgo.com/
This only happens to white people and usually the culprits are other white people.
So, the answer is "stupid white people".
You're ver beautiful. Like a princess.
Aw thank u
Probably because it is used to invite more attention by rebelliousness
I don't really know (or care much)
A million dollar question. I personally dont care if someone wears a sombrero or has a collection of calaca skulls in their room.
Ain’t nothing wrong with that and I’m a black woman
Some people can't let others be happy or be different.
Who care? You allowed to have whatever make you happy.
People don't care. It is only that you are overly sensitive.
Id date them (based off the pics). Its not off putting at all and idgaf if it offends people or not.
I’ve never understood cultural appropriation. It’s just fashion and style.
Not if you've been keeping up with the headlines lately. It's beginning to look more like hatred of whites.
@ThisAndThat or whites are snowflakes…?
Snowflakes, why is that? Is it because I'm not about to take the white guilt trip the left keeps trying to pin on me.
It's not, it's just moron who consider that white people can't do anything.
