It really shouldn't be a problem at all and my eyes roll so hard whenever I hear someone complain about it. There's hardly any culture, technology, fashion in the world that hasn't had an influence somewhere else in the world. Not to mention some of those things coincidentally developing separate from each other. FYI, the ancient vikings wore dreads too.
Because people are hypocritical morons who just want to feel like they are talking from the moral highground and apply power this way.
This stuff is just ridiculous. Like, do we claim certain demographics can't wear jeans? Or use cars? Or even more basic use electricity? Of course not. Because it's ridiculous.
You're not too bright if you don't understand cultural appropriation.
Some people just don't want to see certain people utilise the symbols and styles of their race/culture.
Think of it like this, your abuser/rapist/mugger etc coming out wearing what makes you you. You wouldn't be happy in the least.
But of course. Not everyone goes for the cultural appropriation thing.
Both my daughters wanted that look when they came to Thailand " dreads " , my god its a big procedure. No big deal at all in my opinion , and nice to take on the attire of different cultures , get some odd looks? Who cares..

Its a USA thing , stare back at em and tell em mind their business , the idea that you have to " look " a certain way ludicrous to the max.
It isn't... Cultural Appropriation isn't actually a thing in fact, culture is different than ethnicity so while they often do go hand in hand, you could convert to any culture you choose in reality

Than that’s cultural appropriation it does exist though I will admit that some people take it too far but it definitely exists
My thing about it is that the people complaining about it are the same people who push for a multicultural world...
Those people want people that actually join a culture, cultural appropriation is when someone that has no affiliation to a culture try’s to imitate it and it comes across as offensive
The vast majority of people who scream cultural appropriation in these kind of instances are not from the culture. They are a small but very loud group of people who always try to find more victims in order for them to be the saviors of those people. They are constantly trying to find and create victims and victim classes so that they can step in and be the night in shining armor.

It's about the history of hair styles and credit.
Many Black hairstyles, braids and locks included, were deemed unprofessional and or inappropriate for certain settings for years.
That isn't necessarily the case now but that is primarily due to many people fighting to make the styles professionally, and to a degree, socially accepted.
Those who are aware of said history take offense when other ethnicities, specifically white, dawn the styles which were once shunned.
I think people often take it too far but I do understand the frustration with dreads as it was a mocked and often even banned hairstyle important to black people specifically and now it's becoming trendy for white people without much recognition of the history behind it
I don’t see it as appreciating other cultures but rather if you like how something looks on you.. if anyone is discriminating or feeling offended or try to put someone else down for how they want to style then that person should refrain from doing anything any other person does or is a hypocrite.
Style yourself how you think you look nice and don’t care what others say. It’s mostly hypocritical people who do that anyway.
It's not a big deal. It is a fucking hairstyle at the end of the day and cannot be claimed by race or culture. It is just hair.

Not to mention a black male is more likely to receive more time with the same crime than a white male. The justice system is beyond corrupt who knows how many innocent black men are sitting in jail.

there were 7,964 Murder arrests
of which 4,078 were Black

^ Then take into consideration the MANY unsolved murder cases that are notorious in Black neighborhoods.. and that Murder rate is far higher for the Black community

and Whites usually kill Whites
and there's very little interracial murder (its a small portion)
However,
Blacks often KILL more Blacks in a year
than Whites kill Whites
and the White population is 5 times larger
If White people killed at the same rate as Blacks in 2019
there would have been 25,000 Murders in the White community

The issue is how common those crimes happen in comparison to each other.
Blacks are VERY disproportionate in the crime rate (especially in the worst types).
and in many cases, things go unreported (or unsolved.. something like 75% of murders in Chicago are unsolved)
MEANING, that even in comparison to the statistics I've provided.. the Black rate is likely much higher (considering it handles arrests)
75% unsolved rate.. in a city with 500 to 1,000 murders a year (most of them Black) is terrible.
It simply isn't the same in most White communities (once again, I highlight most)

My thing with this cultural appropriation nonsense is that different cultures from all around the world have been borrowing ideas and practices from each other since the dawn of time. For example tattoos originated in different ancient cultures that had little to no interactions with each other. Ancient Egyptians, ancient Chinese, and Celtic tribes all started practicing tattooing independent of each other. Also what about foods that originate from different cultures? Is it racist or appropriation to go eat at the local Mexican or Indian restaurants? As long as someone ISN'T doing something with the INTENTION of being rude or offensive there shouldn't be a problem. With that said I do not think it's appropriate to wear garments that have a traditional or religious purpose for said culture unless you want to follow the traditions or religious practices yourself.

I think it's mainly because they feel that there's no cultural incentive to dress certain ways. And since there's no cultural incentive, it's all for fashion so they might be offended especially if it's traditional clothing.
I kinda compare it to an atheist celebrating religious holidays. An atheist doesn't have the same value for the holiday that the religious person would.
there's an island off of in the pacific called Melanesia. Its the third pacific nation. the other two are Micronesia and Polynesia. Melanesia (melanesians) have brown skin and blonde hair. Like literally everyone on that island was born with blonde hair. Its natural for them, they dont carez they have afros and theyre islanders. Why should anyone care if they have braided hairs and have a different skin complexion?
If it's just one other way of 'decorating' (or presenting?) oneself - I don't see where that's ''wrong''.
However - I have seen people who at the same time try to imitate or identify with someone or something that they not really are; or never CAN be.
That counts not only for using other culture's items, but also for ''trans-dressing'' and such.
It still does not offend me, but I find it silly in these cases.

If folks in the US want to dress in cultural garb it’s not an issue to me, although some will certainly draw scrutiny from Law Enforcement.

My best friend who’s white wears box braids and twist all the time now she actually asked me how I felt about it and if she does get it would it be disrespectful. I told her absolutely not. She also has lip fillers and stuff it’s on her and how confident she is I mean if she wants to who am I to be like no. Get it. I told her she’ll probably get stares sometimes but F them.
I really haven't heard of Indian or Asian saying that.. not even African or Jamaican. It's really the Americans. Everyone else sees it as appreciation unless it's done in a tasteless or offensive manner

Regardless of what race you are, if you want to wear them, go ahead. It's up to you. It shouldn't be a big deal of any kind. It's your free will.
