Dated a girl whose ponytail was the same like mine was here's was also thin and fine like mine was which made getting tangled into each other when rolling around on the bed an agonizingly tedious experience of untangling detangling and securing our own shoulder length hair to her own scrunchie or hair tie after hours of not being able to tell her blonde hair from my bright red hair which rebelled against us and a symbiosis that was more than a match for our scrunchies and detangling solutions of expensive French manufacturer. We just learned to either secure those Long pony tails in cloth wraps before getting frisky with each other, or suffer the consequences of two well-groomed shoulder length haired people, becoming an unholy amalgamation of that creepy dude's situation on The Addams Family, whose name I can't remember, but was all hair with a pair of brightly shined loafers on his feet, cuz that's what we were that one time we neglected to take care of that, we became him, whatever his name was, that was all just hair and shiny shoes.

If hair is too short, most girls will look masculine.

This is not horribly masculine but it is definitely not feminine! Not a good look.

On the other hand, if a girl has hair that is too long, it can look rather childish, like the girl in fourth grade who had never cut her hair.

Either is okay. It’s the overall look of the woman that gets me. My partner had shorter hairstyle when I met her. It was her beautiful eyes and face and nice body and intelligence and sense of humor, the sound of her voice, it was all of that stuff that got me. Her hair didn’t matter much at all. She is beautiful. Now her hair is much longer. She still looks great. I think as a woman, wear your hair that way you want to, that makes you feel good. Don’t try to guess what guys might like. Guys have all kinds of different opinions, but a guy who would overlook you based on the length of your hair? That is way too shallow. Just be yourself.

To me yes it does matter. My thinking is unlike most men. Unlike most men I only find women with short, super short, BOY CUT hairstyle as attractive/appealing.

Any other hairstyle will be outright unappealing to me.

No. it really depends on how you take care of it and style it. For me, hygiene is the most important and being neatly groomed is the prettiest.
Even long locks can look like a greasy old mop if its not properly washed and brushed...
