I'd like to figure out why hiding the belly button has become such a thing here in the last few years.

Then get mad at men for saying something to them or approaching them! I wonder it too. Women should cover up though. Attract the wrong kind of attention.
I don't see any issues with it as long the reason they're doing it is because it's what THEY wanna do and not anything to do with societal pressure
Personally if I think the outfit or style is cute, I wear it. Not everything women wear is for attention…sometimes we just really love the look or it’s comfortable.
Climate change.
The entire planet is getting hotter and more humid.

I think a lot of women today lacked good role models. And I think many of them don't really distinguish between good and bad attention. They don't care how a guy is looking at her. Only that he's looking.
