Why don't people who have messed up teeth and can afford it just go fix them?

Sounds pretty judgy of you. How do you know what people can afford? You don't have access to their lives or bank accounts. Maybe there's something more important like a car payment or their children's needs or college tuition, a mortgage, or an operation.

People who've had hard lives usually don't take care of their teeth. I've seen and met a few. Also, family dental practices usually lead to children also caring for their teeth. Many people don't have good dental plans. WIth most insurance, dental is only covered at 50% and there are deductibles.

My son's braces came 100% out of our pockets and we paid as we went. But it was priority for us to have his teeth well cared for and for him to look his best.

For some people hygiene and appearance aren't on their radars. There are other matters that come first.

Why don't you ask some of the people who you think can afford dental care why they don't do it. Maybe you'll find out more than you bargained for.

Some people are too lazy to have their teeth fixed the insurance I have has limitations and I can't even get crowns on teeth that break but look these people can get almost anything done, and they have good health insurance coverage it's a bunch of monarchy. About 3 years ago, I went to my dentist with a break in my teeth, and he was able to fix it and save the tooth. I'm glad it didn't need to be pulled, but I do care about my teeth and how I look, some people just don't care.

Assuming they are upper-middle class enough, so that spending money on braces won't feel like a big purchase (unlike it is for me)?

Maybe they don't trust the doctors.

Or they don't want to conform to beauty standards.

Or they are too lazy to commit to it.

I wear braces and I started at the late age of 27 using my own money. I have seen very beautiful girls as young as 22 years old wearing braces.

First of all, the picture displayed for your question tells me this poor young man has some learning disabilities or a medical condition of some sort. A lot of our differently abled citizens aren't born with perfectly straight teeth and you know it. Probably almost all of them have a condition where they don't like to be touched. The State might help pay for braces but probably not.
Secondly, would you get off apple1996's back about her teeth. Gosh, there was no reason for you to ride her ass like you did.
Are you just in an ugly mood today? I suggest you hope off this site and go and comb your hair or something. Jeepers creepers!

The dentist is one of the few times that a peson might have the experience of invasive surgery without adequate anesthesia. It hurts like hell, and there si nothing you can do about it.

I realize some dentists do anesthesia in the office, but I don't trust it.

If I need to have extensive dental work, I want an anesthesiologist present and monitoring me the whole time, and a fully stocked crash cart that he KNOWS how to use, at minimum.

For really extensive work I want to be in the hospital with full anestthesia backup including a crash team.

All of this is $$$$ but it's my life at stake.

Some people are afraid of side effects arising from dental treatments. I had a friend who thought she was pregnant but refused to take a pregnancy test. They think they can erase problems by pretending they do not exist.

Depends what it is. If you get braces don't you need a retainer all your life?

One guy I know had his front tooth knocked out. I think he said it'd cost 3500£ to fix and would require him being put to sleep. Think I'd still do it...

Depends on the person. I had some really jacked choppers because I had some really bad dental experiences as a child. And when I got big enough that the mother couldn't physically force me to go anymore, I stopped going. Then in my mid 20's I finally got the courage to do something about it.

Because I've had messed up teeth before I'd never bust on someone about thier teeth.

If the person has grown up with that distinctive look for a long time, then they may not want to change that big of appearance about themselves. As well, it is important to know that apparently people from most other countries, unlike America, do not place much emphasis on the straightness or cleanliness of teeth near to the degree that Americans do.

I was recently told that all of my teeth are infected and would have to go. I also have a few abscesses. But, I don't want implants.
