How did you first learn how to do makeup?

This question was inspired by my daughter. She's at the age where she wants to start doing makeup, but me and her other mother don't do makeup, nor do we really know how to so we aren't any help to her.

So, how did you learn? Was it from a family member? Did you just get in there and just practice until you got it down the way you liked? Was it a more modern approach like watching YouTube videos? Or maybe you are like me and don't do makeup at all?

Teen Magazine, Vogue magazine, Cosmopolitan magazine, go online to the MAC cosmetic site and look at makeup videos on Youtube.

You can find anything and everything, all styles, colors etc. AND go to Macy's or Sephora or A department store with a makeup department.

Makeup people there will do a mini makeup session for nothing. Sephora charges $25 which I THINK they'll take off if you buy products.

The basics aren't hard. A little eye shadow, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara are all a young girl needs. Those giant lashes aren't necessary. Good quality mascara will make lashes thick enough.

Get those makeup remover tissues by neutrogena to clean the face off after a day of wearing makeup.

If your girl is having a super busy day, just use some lipstick to dress up the face. It's all you need if pressed for time.

women's magazines cosmo vogue maybe a few others even playboy had glamorous women yes my father had them and i was able to tell what they did where and how much to use blush lipstick lipgloss eye shadow and mascara make up in general there's a palette of looks you want a lot of looks but often something simple it really is a lot of fun i'm sick of reading where guys don't like make up but it's not totally for them like dresses and skirts then you read where they want to wear them how dare they

Well first I was just the test dummy for my closest cousin. She would learn something and then try it on me, until she tweezed my eyebrows one time and that was the last time I was her test dummy lol but then my mom put a bin of cosmetics from the store she worked at in front of me and said I could learn with that stuff. Her makeup style is old and hasn't changed ever so I'd learn from my dad's girlfriends how to do some stuff or one, my fav one, always always colored my hair and I loved it but our skin tones were different. Hers was fair and mine is olive but I'd just copy what I saw older women do then luckily my best friend went to beauty school and so she would teach me everything she would learn.

I started wearing makeup at 12/13 yo. I used to rock a black khol in my waterline in my teen years. Then started watching YT makeup tutorials and started upgrading my makeup skills. I'd say my makeup is always on point and always receive compliments from other people.

YouTube. I started with specialFX and monster makeup. Then I figured I should also learn how to do the regular stuff to get better with small finer details. My favorite YouTube social media artists are AlexisJayda (she does makeup while telling her life story. No pressure she makes eye makeup easy.) and PaintedBySpencer (He’s so patient, I find him soothing in his step by step tutorials and even shows looks of people of different complexions and age.)

At Macy's and Sephora's beauty counters. They have trained makeup artists who will do personal consultations and applications. Ofc the purpose is to sell you their products, but you don't have to buy any to get the assistance. I use little to no makeup. But I do practice good skin care, which they can also help with. And when I do use a little makeup it's nice to have products I like on hand and know how to use them.
