Why is this gay guy flirting with me, a straight girl?

A few months ago I met this sweet and nice guy. He came up to me and initiated the converstation. At first I thought he was flirting with me because he came up to me like that and also started asking questions like what kind of boys I liked, etc. Then that same day, he said something in a way that was very 'gay' which made me think that maybe he was gay. But as time went on we kept in touch and he kept flirting by making intense eye contact, staring at me when I'm not looking, touching me, putting his head on my shoulder and in my lap, teasing, etc. Which made me forget my initial impression of him. Even my friends said it was obvious he liked me. But now, just a few days ago, we had a conversation about homosexuality and he said he was gay. I was not that surprised because I always had that thought in the back of my mind that he could still be gay. Only now I'm so confused. Why would he flirt like that? It's a good thing I didn't fall for him, but still, it's playing with a girl's feelings. (He also didn't stop with the flirtation after that conversation)

At some point playing a "gay card" is a tactic used to pick up girls. It requires good charm and good thinking, since it's a quite hard strategy to execute.

Since humans are all about procreation, somewhere deep down inside the heads of straight women there's a desire to "save" a guy from being unable to procreate through natural means (for overwhelming majority of human history there was no way to procreate through the use of labs and stuff). That's why if played right, it's possible to call out the desire of a girl to go for a allegedly gay guy.
Additionally, women are very reliant on their self esteem. Somewhere in their heads they can only imagine what kind of height their ego will achieve should they seduce a guy who's not into women to begin with. Basically it's like a proof to them they are so damn hot even gays fall for them.

I'm not saying this is definitely the case, but you should be aware of such tactic. But again, a guy doing it should be very smart and quite charismatic to properly execute it.

In a same way I know one guy who's always telling he's a virgin to girls and somehow he always gets laid by the 3rd date. I believe he himself lost the count how many times he has "lost his virginity" LOL.
This tactic won't work for majority, but that guy is one of those rare individuals who can execute this tactic properly.
