Guys, do you ever make bets on girls?

There is this guy who I have a crush on who is now dating this girl I used to be friends with. She and I aren't friends anymore, because she wasn't a very good friend and she lied a lot, talked about me behind my back, etc. Well the guy I had a crush on was giving some pretty obvious signs that he liked me back (touch me, find excuses to talk to me, stare at me, sit with me in classes etc.) and all his friends kept hinting that he did. Now that everyone has heard my crush and my old friend are going out, their surprised that he isn't dating me instead. I was texting him and he said "I just want us to be close friends." I'm fine with that, but now people are starting to say that my crush's friends made a bet with him to see how long he could stay in a relationship with this girl, because she kind of has a history of being well...kinda slutty I guess. So guys, do boys really make bets on girls?

If we see something as a good bet, we'll at least try. Most of my friends are too classy to wager anything important on anything important, but we may put a few bucks down on when a couple's next fight is, or how long until I break up with this girl, etc. All good natured stuff.
