Why does alcohol make you bolder?

Dulls irrational inhibitions. If you come to think about it, approaching some girl and asking her out, only to get totally rejected, isn't really something to worry about. But it's easy to worry about it if you're a bit on the shy side and sober. Alcohol kind of drowns out those silly inhibitions.

It also makes you kind of dumber. If you have a brain that's constantly on overdrive with thoughts, alcohol will kind of dumb that side down, make you feel more relaxed, and have an easier time going with the flow of the crowd, of conversations. Too much though and you might start to become a caveman: "Me like girl! Me want! Me go ask for date! Hey girl, me like your boobs! Let's date!"

Unfortunately it also drowns out the rational inhibitions, like maybe it's not a good idea to open up a conversation with a female stranger by making a comment about her butt or boobs (something I constantly forgot when I got drunk enough).

Inhibitions are inherent in all people; it's what makes you nervous when trying to talk to women, or keeping you from doing dumb and dangerous stuff. I dunno if you've tried it, listing your age at 17, but basically alcohol makes you lose your inhibitions to a degree, moreso the more you drink. If you've ever stayed up all night til the next day, alcohol gives you a similar feeling to that, without the exhaustion.
