Did he save my number?

I called a classmate about a project towards the end of the semester, so there shouldn't have been any reason to save my number in his phone. I ran across his number a couple of months later and decided to text him "Hey, hope you don't mind the message, how have you been" etc. He text back asking how I've been, and then "What's good tonight?"

I was really expecting him to ask "Who is this". Do you think he saved my number, or is it possible he was just...playing along hoping to figure out who it was? Maybe assumed the message was from someone else?

Guys: Have you ever just played along if you didn't know a number? I'm trying to figure the odds here.

I usually play along till I can figure out who it is... but he may of added you if he thinks that there is a chance of him running into you again, or perhaps he just has an above average memory like my buddy and doesn't believe in speed dial, but people like that tend to use payphones & landlines though so hard to say.

Think back to the project what sort was it? How many classes did this guy have? If he was giving you info for a project, chances are he was helping others too, it's often easier just to add everyones number so that you don't get as mixed up and then after the semester he never got around to deleting it...

Thanks for replying. It wasn't something I had to call him more than once about. No other classes together etc. When you played along, did you ever give up and ask who the person was? How far did you take it?

Usually not more than a few texts or usually I would just drop the conversation. He may in fact know exactly who you are though, especially if he liked you! If a girl I liked gave me her # and asked me some info about a project regardless of the time of year I'd keep the number. It's not weird that he kept your number, if you like him, when you meet him in person again call him on it by playfully saying... "hey so, why'd you keep my number?" if I were in his shoes I'd say "ya, I did etc etc."

Some guys will program a girl's number into their phone with no contrived reason. Just because they could be texting you a few times regarding the project. Sometimes, I will admit, I play along in hopes I'll figure it out, haha.

If you played along, did you ever eventually ask? How have you handled that? I was just shocked that he didn't ask who I was.

It usually doesn't play out very well so I should definitely stop doing it, lmfao. I'm going to end up meeting up with a stranger someday, I swear.

I'm really not a pessimist, but it's your lone answer that will make me believe he was just playing around to see who messaged him lol! I'm used to aggressive guys. I figure if he felt he had reason to keep it, he would have used it in the months between. The fact that he hadn't used it is what makes me wonder. Thanks for your reply!

No reason to delete a contact except due to overt animosity. You never know when you might want someone to help you move or something.

I never bother saving a number I don't plan to use more in the future. I didn't give him my number directly, so I figured it wouldn't have been saved after I had called him once 2 and a half months ago. I guess I'm clueless regarding what others do.

I found it on the piece of paper I wrote it on. I literally ran across it, as in found it haha.
