You see, I’m very ordinary looking, but super funny and charming - my friend looks like a super model and she couldn’t figure out why the waiter let me eat for free - she had to pay full price for our meal together while I did not pay a single cent

You may want to rethink your description of yourself as just being “very ordinary looking” if you’re getting free food from an attractive waiter. As far as why he’s giving you free food, based on what you’ve described, it’s impossible to know for sure, I think if he’s that bold to risk getting fired then he would at least be bold enough to ask you on a date directly but, you’ll probably just have to wait and see.

Ehh, there are lots of ways for a server to change your bill.

Some bosses are chill. Some places have rules that you can comp so many times a week before it's a problem.

Sometimes you aren't allowed to at all, but literally no one will know if he just hits cash and doesn't bring a bill. That will tell the computer you gave him cash, and at the end of the shift that just comes out of his credit card tips.

Nobody really checks the credit card slips unless there is a problem. I've definitely swiped my own card and just scribbled on the ticket.

He probably likes you, but I doubt he was at risk of getting fired. Chances are if he isn't allowed to give away free meals he paid for it himself.

Personally, i've had bosses who hate to give discounts.

But I'm smart. If I make a mistake on a $100 bill I'll punch in $5 or $10 in cash and tell them I gave them a discount to make it up to them.

20% of 95 is $19.
10% of 100 is $10.

If I take $5 out of my pocket, drop their bill to $95 and get 20% Instead of 10%, I made an extra $4. And I made my customers happy so they will probably come back and tip me again.

If take $10 out of my pocket and make $19 Instead of $10, I lost $1, but I probably got a good survey Instead of a complaint to my manager.

And, at the places I worked, bills were rarely under $100. $10 off (out of pocket) on a $500 bill can make all the difference. Especially if those people come back and request you again because they know you care about their experience.

I'm going to make a guess; your friend paid for you. Or maybe the waiter forgot? It also depends on how the waiter interacted with you that night.

If I were a waiter (purposefully) letting you eat for free, then yea, that would be flirting. It would be literally putting my income aside.

Your free cone day is a business move that is equal to all customers, its not a free cone day only for hot, single, female customer that the waiter has a crush on.

One time, I got out of the hospital for being suicidal and the guy at Wendy's gave me a free small frosty. He probably did risk getting fired. But shit, it meant a lot to me.
