Was he into me or did I just imagine it?

I met an almost 40 year-old guy a month ago. It was at a sort of seminar which lasted a few days and we didn't have a lot of things to do together, but there was one event where he saw how I was preparing parts of my project presentation and he went on and on about how cool and good that was.

He told me that and praised me really a lot, very enthusiastically, and then once more when were in a group together. It seemed like he wanted me to know how much he liked it, it made me smile, and that made him smile, it was more like he was talking to me than to everyone else. He really seemed personally touched by my work and he made it his job to show how great he found how I was doing it.

During that group hang out, he also stood next to me and I had the feeling we would be talking a lot more if others weren't around. When I was talking, he looked at me with a forlorn smile (can't put it any other way) and was forthcoming and sweet, but also held a huge monologue when it was on him to talk.

When he started to talk about his work, he looked at me several times and it looked like he was unsure if I liked it.

Then again, there were one or two times when we were with some different people and he started to talk more to some old guy and I was left aside a bit. That was a tad cold suddenly. In the group setting though, he was very nice to me and I did get the feeling he was inching closer.

Yet, in the end, he simply said "see you next year". Next year? Come on. I'm wondering if there was any interest on his side.

I sent him a fb request as everyone who met there connected on social media, but there hasn't been any action from his side, and I decided not to do anything more.

What's up with that, was that purely my imagination?
