Can somebody explain the whole “triangle” eye contact/lips thing?

Hanging out with my guy friend (E, who I’ve been crushing on for a while, has a girlfriend, and used to like me back). We laugh about our height difference often (I’m 5’1, he’s 5’10, not that bad). I had climbed up on a stone garden wall, just so I could tell him I was taller. I expected E to pull me down, not climb up and stand toe to toe with me. I gently pushed his stomach/lower chest area, trying to get him to scoot. He kept smiling and not saying anything to me. He kept looking lower than my eyes (I was wearing a baggy sweatshirt, which kinda swallowed my not-so-busty self, so I doubt he was looking there—his girlfriend has quite a bit going on here), and I assumed it was my mouth. He was going back and forth, smiling, mute. Then I became self conscious, wondering if it was actually my breaking out nose he was checking out lol. I know I had no food on my face. I made a face at him, hopped down from the wall. E called after me “Oh, so when I do it it’s weird?” I know for a fact I haven’t looked at his lips for months, I still have no idea what he meant.

Was this triangle eye contact? Shouldn’t my friend look at my eyes, especially if he’s got a girl?
