Why do guys like girls to hug them around their neck?

personally, I prefer wrapping my arms around his waist, for various reasons. 1: I can pull him closer to me, you can't really do that when your arms are around his neck. 2: during long hugs, I can rest my head on his shoulder/chest, when my arms are around his neck, my arms block his shoulder/chest area, which means that the hug is less comfy.

overall, hugging around the neck seems to me less intimate and less comfy. why do you guys prefer it?

I like neck and waist hugs. Preference varies from mood and situation but it's more common for my gf to hug me around my neck and she explained to me why. Our heights aren't much different and so when she hugs me like that she listens to my heart beat. She said the sound is soothing and also can help her determine how I'm feeling based on my heart rate... And breathing. I can understand how neck hugs can be less intimate in some ways but it can be more intimate in others. You can also look into each other's eyes closer

I can't say I have a lot of experience with the hugging thing but perhaps it's because in the arms-around-his-neck-position your face is closer to his, which might be considered more intimate? I wonder how varying height differences would influence comfort and intimacy of both positions, I suspect it might be significant. For instance, if you're a lot shorter than the guy, I imagine the arms-around-neck would become rather uncomfortable.

yeah exactly. it's uncomfortable and then you're just like, "what am I gonna do with my hands?" and they just awkwardly dangle. lol

5'5". the guy I was last with was 6'0", which meant that when hugging I could comfortably rest my head on his chest :D

for guy friends, I'll hug them around the neck because it feels less personal then my putting my arms around his waist and having my face against him. I think the whole face-against-body deal is pretty intimate.

I've noticed this as of late. i think girls are pressured into giving those hugs and a lot of them just give it without thinking because the guy leans his head in demanding one and it'll hurt his ego if he pushed him back. I've never done that i'm 6 foot so i just reach my arm around and get a waist hug but I do envy when i see other guys getting neck hugs it'd be nice to get one. Believe it or not I never got one.
