Is it a good thing if a girl reacts well to a compliment?

I've had girls just give me a blank stare after giving them a compliment. I don't know Maybe those are the ones that get hit on left and right. Anyways, today I complimented this cashier at the gas station that caught my eye about a week ago so today she happened to be working and she looked a little bummed out, wasn't even sitting up straight etc so I told her she was cute and she just lite up after that. I left it at that but hopefully I can catch her again in the next week or two and get her number. Opinions?
