This guy from theater I’m becoming theater friends with, we have the same sense of humor and in almost every conversation, we laugh hysterically. We also pick on each other by teasing each other with objects and stealing things. I don’t know if he was joking but he pinky promised me that he didn’t drink and then I said “are you going the same way as me” and he said “I am but I’m not following you. I don’t like you that much. We’ll see how it goes maybe someday”. Does he actually not like me that much and thought I liked him or was it just all a joke. What does that joke mean? I’m really bad at reading signals. I also said I don’t have a ride and he said “I can give you a ride. Or anyone else can” so he doesn’t care THAT much? I’m really confused. What if he is just friendly and like that with everyone?

He may like you, just to afraid to come out and say it as he doesn't know how you feel and doesn't want to make the first move, this is the scenario we all would love to happen.
However you should also be aware of this type of behavior as I've seen it used when someone just wants you to admit you like them when they have no intention of following their end through. It's all to do with their low self esteem. So if it back fires, don't take it personally as you were the mature one to be upfront and honest. Plus they just waved their red flag right in your face and saved you from making a big mistake. 😉
