So today I asked my romantic interest if he drank and he said no and that he promised his mother he wouldn’t because he believes its bad (don’t judge him pls) and he said the only time he had a drink was a little bit of champagne at a quinceañera. Long before at the beginning when we were less serious and joked around I remembered he said he was gonna cook and have a party. I jokingly asked
”do u drink?” His reply back then was “maybe, shhh ahh you didn’t hear anything.” It was a very childish reply and didn’t really seriously answer my question. However today almost 2 months later I recalled that and seriously asked him and he sweared he didn’t drink. Me being paranoid told him but u said “this” that one time I asked u long ago and he said it was stupid of him to say that because it was a joke, and that no he did not drink that day nor will he as he previously stated. Did what he say the first time I asked him if he drank (maybe, ahh shhh you didn’t hear anything) really could’ve been a joke?

Sounds as if he only joked with you.

Granted, not a good joke but he tried in vain to sound interesting. However, this is not something that people should joke about because it might be misinterpreted and it may backfire on the person making the joke.

For example if a person only dates people that do not drink and later find out he/she is a regular drinker, it might cause a conflict that could have been avoided if the drinker would have been honest from the start.

So, if he was joking but it was actually true, then it is really not something to... joke about! That is how you lose confidence in someone.
