How can he say I'm everyone's type, when I just got rejected?

I've been out on a date with this guy that I liked a lot but he didn't want to see me again.

My best friend asked me what went wrong and I said "I don't know I guess I just wasn't his type" and he said "oh come on you're everyone's type, it's probably something you said that scared him off"

I don't want to deny that I may have said something that turned him off but wouldn't that just mean that I'm not his type?

And what does he mean by "you're everyone's type" anyways?

He is saying that whatever the reason for rejecting you, it wasn't because you weren't his type. It was something else.

You're not liking the idea that there's something offputting about you, so you'd prefer to blame it on the guy having a different "type"

And you know your best friend is in love with you, yes?

No as I said, it may have been something that put off but I was honest with him so whatever it was this means that I'm not his type.

And no he is not in love with me, why does everyone keep saying that? we're just close friends, I've known him all my life. Being with him would be like being with my brother

I would take it to mean that you're the type of person who appeals to a wide variety of individuals, personality-wise as well as your physical appearance. Many women who would be labeled as the "girl next door" would be considered "everyone's type" (generally speaking).

That's very possible, but another possibility is that he said in an effort to boost her ego or to lift her spirit up. I think it's only natural to compliment someone after a miss.
