Is jaw dropping a reliable indicator of attraction? Or can it indicate something else?

Basically the question. I've noticed that when I make eye contact with this guy across the room that his jaw drops a little. The first time it literally dropped all the way open lol.

Idk, the expression on his face gives me the idea that he is in shock or awe or something like that. He usually looks at the ground, unless I break eye contract first.

Is this a reliable indicator that he's attracted to me? I hear phrases like jaw dropping beauty and stuff like that all the time. Just wondering if there is any truth to that type of statement.

I've noticed that he does this, but otherwise kind of gives me mixed signals. In general when we talk he listens to what I'm saying and contributes a fair amount, but I sometimes get an uncomfortable vibe from him.. He often avoids looking at me when we are talking and seems hesitant to smile. Just made me wonder if jaw dropping could indicate discomfort or something like that?

There is absolute truth to this. I come from a military environment so I have good awareness of the feel of my face. The jaw drop does happen. When it happened to me I felt my face soften as if it rounded out somehow. I did it because the girl is so pretty and she acts sexy and we locked eyes for so long that it messed up my mind for that moment and I couldn't tense my face to suppress my response. I did the jaw drop slightly and felt my face flush when I gazed into her eyes. I have a HUGE crush on her. She saw my jaw drop too. I saw her eyes flitter to my parted lips and I saw her get excited. She whipped her neck away from me slowly while still locking eyes with her peripheral vision. As she was turning away it looked like she licked the back of her teeth because I saw her tongue move. My heart was pounding so hard at the same time.

I normally keep my face and lips very tight. If the guy generally has a tighter face and you saw that jaw drop- especially with the other signs I gave you - then it's a lock that he is extremely attracted.

Interesting! Basically the first time he approached me to talk and we made eye contact. His eyebrows shot up and I noticed his jaw gradually drop lower and lower until it basically could not drop any more lol.

I was aware of myself kind of studying his face because I found him to be very very attractive. I don't know if his mind went blank but I know mine did.

We have gotten to know each other and he doesn't do that anymore. Now he kind of raises his eyebrows and smiles at me

When guys get more comfortable around a girl do they tend to have better control of their face and not drop their jaws all the time? Lol

Yup. We have better control because it's harder for you to dumbstrike us after awhile. This thing happens the first time you meet or when you make unexpected eye contact in the beginning before you talk. After he's comfortable he will still do it occasionally if things get hot unexpectedly or if you shock him him in ways that are extra alluring. He shouldn't do it full on anymore. Just slight lip parting and face rounding.

The eyebrows are a good sign too. They mean the same thing. Lip parting and clumsiness are gold since those are so hard to fake and represent strong irrepressible passion.

That is so cool! I really had no idea guys thought like that. I'm curious why girls don't drop their jaws and why guys do. When I saw him the first time we talked I definitely found him attractive but I did not feel my jaw drop in any way. I held eye contact and I was aware I was blinking a lot and focusing on parts of his face but that's about it. I definitely felt like I had better control of my face than he did lol. Could it be because men are a lot more visual do you think?

lol. Yes it is. So keep a tennis ball in your purse and when you want to make sure that things just got hot...say "think fast!" and toss it at him. If he fumbles it. That's a touchdown for you.

Yes. I think the visual thing has a good amount to do with it. The biggest part I'm sure is that women are wired/supposed to play hard to get so you are granted more facial control. We are wired to be proactive and pursue. When our lips part we are getting ahead of ourselves and wanting to kiss you then.

How interesting! I don't feel like jaw dropping is a really common thing right? He is probably the second guy to do that to me. And do you think whether or not you drop your jaw is an indicator of how attractive you find the girl? Like I'm sure a guy can be attracted to a girl but not drop his jaw, but if he does drop it does it suggest an additional wow factor or something like that?

Exactly. It's really uncommon. It is the extra wow factor that sends him over. We humans play things very coy, usually. If we were dangerously uninhibited we'd drop our jaws a lot more often. So when someone drops his jaw or parts his lips his desire is overcoming his normal bearing. The more serious he is the more desire is required to overcome this barrier.

He finds you incredibly attractive. I walk past or talk to hundreds of women and my jaw drops maybe 3 or 4 times a year tops.

And I'm talking slight jaw dropping here. What you describe he did where it goes all the way down and freezes there for a sec is as intense of a desire as it gets. I've only felt myself do that with this girl I like now and when my previous girlfriend took my glasses off before we went to bed for the first time. I can say both times women seem to respond well to it like it gives you an extra shot of confidence. Am I right?

A tear that slips out when tears are fought back is the truest, that smile that shines through after being fought back is the truest, the laugh that comes out after a failed stifle is the truest. Congrats on being so darn observant. He doesn't realize he's sending you these signals so go easy on him, you had inside help! ;)

From the way he looked at me I instinctively felt he was attracted to me, but I didn't want to assume anything. I noticed he was looking over at me a lot before he approached me.

I have no idea why, but when we were talking after he approached me I was extremely confident. And I am not a confident person. I'm shy and very awkward around guys that I am attracted to. The next couple times I tried approaching him I reverted back to my shy state lol.

I distinctly remember not being able to stop smiling and I was giggling nervously quite a bit lol. He didn't seem to mind too much because he would kind of smile shyly at me while I made a fool out of myself lol.

But the other times that he did do a less extreme version of dropping his jaw I noticed I was the more confident one in the conversation.

So I would say that jaw dropping can even make the most shy girl a little confident :)
