What are your thoughts on tofu?

I have strong negative feelings towards people who judge tofu harshly. Tofu never did anything to anyone. Ok, don't tell me it has no taste. Duh. It's not supposed to have a taste. It absorbs whatever flavors are around it. So, if you don't like Tofu, what you're telling me is you've never cooked before. You don't know a basic thing like mixing spices with olive oil to create a flavor.

Tofu is high in protein and extremely bland, you have to add a lot of flavor by sauteing it in a tasty sauce and seasonings.

It's a bland, insipid, unpleasant food product with a soft and mushy texture. But if one wants protein, and doesn't want to, or can't afford, to eat meat, it is an alternative.

But any food you have to add tons of other stuff to, to give it any taste at all, is not a food I use. Except maybe white rice. It's a good palette-cleanser to have with other food.

I like the firm tofu that comes in large squares but only like soft tofu if it is mixed with spices and meats or veggies. Hard tofu tastes amazing in jumbo veggie dumplings but most stores do not sell the jumbo edible wrappers you need to make them.

Yummy if cooked properly. Most people don't understand you have to get a tofu press to get the water out then add spices and other things for flavor. There is also silken tofu which is good for desserts and smoothies.

Its a very flexible ingredient. Add it to a soup, deep fry it, steam it with soy sauce, stir-fry with veggies, stuff ground meat in them and fry em up (a form of stuffed tofu), braise it with pork, so much you can do with it. And i love it.
