I helped my brother for a year start his own home stead and it was SO much fun! But so much work eventually his wife broke under the constant labor and they had to give up a lot of it. But they still keep chickens and bees. And they have flowers growing all over the property.

On a fully self-sustaining scale? Probably not; even out here, that's a LOT of work. But on a smaller level? Totally. Hell, I'd be growing some stuff RIGHT NOW if I had the means. We're in for some rough times, economically; even if they improve enormously, it's gonna get worse before it gets better. I've been telling people for some time now to start growing their own food, on whatever scale they can; even a couple indoor pots of radishes could make the difference between health and malnutrition, and if things DO improve, you'll still be saving money.

Yeah I have agricultural land and do grow fruits, veggies, herbs, and mushrooms. I usually put in a couple of hours each morning before work each day. I don't keep any livestock at the moment. I might in the future, but I have too much on my plate right now to manage animals.

I spent this morning tilling and hoeing a bed... Tomorrow morning I'll be working on planting out 1000 sqft of cassava, pigeon peas, and sweet potatoes...

My neighbours do that secretly for money. It’s illegal cause they are not licensed but they do not want to pay for a license cause it’s extra work. I had a cousin who sold dumplings when she first came to Canada as a supplement to her income from her engineering job.

I've had a 40 ft x 85 ft veggie and fruit garden for years and my parents did too before that. If you learn how to do it right using hilled wide rows and use a good rear tine tiller between the rows there is almost no work involved or weeding
