My mom’s side of the family has this tradition for making grilled cheese sandwiches on Thanksgiving instead of the traditional dinner. My mom loves to go all-out with it, buying tons of gourmet cheese, breads, veggies, meats, etc. My favorite grilled cheese that she’s made for me was with this white mountain bread, swiss cheese, fried in maple butter, with just a hint of maple syrup, and Canadian bacon. Having that sweet touch of syrup makes such a world of difference in a grilled cheese sandwich and it’s what I try to get every year now. When a grilled cheese is done right, it’s so good.

2. Do you nowadays buy cans of Sloppy Joe sauce JUST SO you can have Sloppy Joe sauce around to dip your grilled cheese sandwiches into?

OR Is It MAINLY THAT you really like to eat Sloppy Joe sandwiches so that’s why you have cans of Sloppy Joe sauce around to dip your grilled cheese sandwiches into?

@gagname I don’t use can of Sloppy Joe; I am cooking ground chuck, with onions and garlic and green peppers with homemade tomato sauce. Later I might make grilled cheese sandwiches instead of putting my sloppy Joe on a bun. I hope that helps you understand.

I used American but, as of a couple years ago, I also started putting pepperoni's in between the cheese slices!! Sadly, you can hardly tell they're there!

My fave is Brie Cheese or Smoked Gouda for grilling. I like mine with a slice of tomato. Sometimes I'll add a slice of ham too, preferably prosciutto or capicola.
