In some way it is, I think. The basic set-up of both is similar.

Anyhow... to not insult the traditional sandwich, I see hotdogs as a mutation of the original idea.

definition: an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with a filling between them.

a hotdog consists of a breadroll that has been cut open. it's not 2 pieces of bread. guess if you break the part of the cut roll that keeps it connected, you can turn a hotdog into a sandwich.

It can be considered a sandwich, but most will say it isn't and won't think of it as one. I mean, I don't call a cheeseburger a sandwich, but it definitely is one.

I don't think so. I don't put the same condiments on a hot dog as I do a sandwich and hot dog comes in a different form.
