Tipping culture has really gotten out of hand in the name of corporate greed. Pay people a living wage and then the tips won't be required.
I agree. And what gets me is the "tip credit". Tips were never intended to take the place of the employees wages. A tip is supposed to be a reward for good service. So, if we don't tip, the worker ends up screwed bc they then aren't even making minimum wage and, in all cases, tip or no tip, the employer comes out well. Effectively we're tipping the employers instead of the person whose service we would like to reward. That is so twisted!
I don't think a sign like this is a good idea and I'm all for tipping well. We need folks that do these jobs and they work hard. It's not their fault the law doesn't protect them with wages that are even close to survive in the most minimal living situations. If they are terrible or mean to you. Yeah you don't have to technically tip but if you haven't done the job you have no idea what they put up with.
If this were real, I'd follow the sign's instructions and eat at the restaurant down the street, where tips are given for good service, not by default.
But...
I'm guessing this sign is a fake, made to make a point about how bad tipping has become. It doesn't even look like a door to a restaurant.
It says “polite” reminder but this is incredibly rude.
It sounds like you're expressing displeasure with a particular dish or culinary experience. While everyone's tastes are different, it's important to find joy in what you eat. For me, the adventure is in discovering flavors, even those that take me by surprise. Sometimes trying something new can be challenging, but it can also lead to delightful culinary discoveries. 🍽️😄
Blind ass botty. Stfu if you can't comprehend context.
@TheStaleMarshmellow Yeah - that's right!
See? AI can't comprehend context!!!

I agree with you, not the sign. It this is a pick-up window, they will not be getting a tip since the food is being taken "from the pass", and if I am getting it "from the pass" then I am the "waitstaff", no one else. If's it an entrance door, then I just won't go in.
oops - If it's an entrance door - - - -
Way to essentially kill your business. Seriously it's bullshit. Or the restaurants that have a mandatory tip. I always enter a negative number when that happens causing their register to freak out. When I tip I leave cash only..
When tipping is mandatory. Then it should be included in the price on the menu.
One guy I knew. Figured that owners of the establishments should not be tipped. Because they are already making a profit on the sale.
I agree with your comment not with the restaurant
😲 Where was this? This is absolutely outrageous! Ah what are they gonna do if you don't tip that much? They can't legally force you, unless they have you pay before you get the food
I would be grateful for this notice so I could find someplace else to eat.
This was clearly marked satire in the original post.
So the sign was joking?
Oh ok. That’s good.
That is not the worst. In my area they have places that will include the tip automatically with the final price. So it forces you to tip even if you don't want to. I tip most of the time when eating out.
I'd write a note to stick on the door:
Polite notice to Scrooge management
Please do NOT employ staff unless you pay them a fair salary
Signed: 'never want to be your customer'
i don't eat out. i will never tip. don't become a waiter. it's a bullshit job for teenagers
let me rephrase. i do eat out women sometimes. and them waitresses don't always leave napkins.
honestly pussy tastes not so much for me.
if a girl said just the tip you should have laid down a towel
Yes, and as a polite Englishman, I find the tipping thing extremely socially awkward.
Why's that?
@Caroline91 just because it's not necessarily mandatory here. So my old friend, when we went out for meals, she's a cheapskate , so would be like 'don't tip'. But then I'm socially extremely conscious , I find the whole idea of the waiter person putting in som3 effort then getting nothing, awkward as fuck
@Levin Oh. So if you are with other people who don't support tipping? I used to always tip unless it was really bad service. I won't tip for a job badly done since a tip is supposed to be a kind of reward. But, now, employers are allowed to deduct from employees wages to account for tips received, whether they actually are or not. So, the service employee ends up breaking even, at best, or even losing money. And, I just don't understand why I should tip the business instead of the person who rendered the service. It's crazy.
@Caroline91 Well, the culture of tipping is slightly different here. In the US I get that it is customary to tip. Here, not really, maybe in nicer restaurants. But it's just awkward, cause if you tip on card, who's getting that money? Are you expected to tip? Does that waiter person hate you for not doing? Just too much of a social minefield. No wonder I just stay in these days...
And yeah, they should just pay the staff a living wage.
One day maybe I will go to an American restaurant just to see the song and dance they make there.
@Caroline91 I mean, just in terms of the service. Americans are louder, so it's amusing watching them make lots of noise, while I'm almost entirely quiet/slightly awkward...
@Caroline91 Nah, Americans are the loudest people on the planet. Trust me!
If I'm abroad they're loud as fuck. Until they hear my accent. Then they go absolutely silent for some reason...
I live in England, and we are not required to tip here.
I can't afford tipping. I budget for the meal itself. Tipping is earned when the service treats me like royalty. Nothing less
Even though I leave that much or more when I get good service, I would walk away and not enter if it were demanded.
I'm old school.
You'll get 15%, the better the service the higher the % will rise.
That sign would make me move on to the next bar or restaurant.
Just increase the prices 20% AND PAY THE STAFF! Wow.
That can't be real, can it?
That sign is telling me to eat somewhere else
That particular business isn't getting my business. I'd just pull right out of line and find somewhere else to order my food.
The 'Manager/Owner' is insisting on the 25% tip so they can pay their staff 25% less.
They probably already add 25% to the meal so it is really 50%
Disgusting. Anyone know the name and location of the restaurant?
Where is that place? I think we should all send them a nice little note.
I hope this isn’t a real sign. If it is, then I sincerely hope that this place goes out of business.
As long as you select the vegetable carefully its a OK
I wouldn't order or eat there anymore.
Less customers lol
What's a Jacksie?
@gwendoline disagree
It isn't a tip if it is required
My boyfriend should leave a tip
25% is too high. I wouldn’t go there.
That is hilarious.😆
Yeh def!, I rarely leave any tip at all,,,
Agreed!
How about this
Yes, I agree.
