Yum that photo made me hungry 😋 That's effective clickbait
Yes, I've had pizza in Venice and Milan. It was quite delicious. I think most people are disappointed and don't find it as good, is a heavily Americanized version. The authentic Italian Margherita is minimalistic and might be slightly bland for American taste-buds.
The focus more on the freshness of ingredients. As with any other kind of food, there's shitty and great pizza all over the world, even in Italy. Some places are tourist traps
me too. I could go for some pizza right now.
Yes you should
Great idea
There's an italian guy in Zürich who is a 3 time pizza making world champion and I went to his restaurant and it was nice but I also had a pinse in the italian part of Switzerland that was just as good :). Since we're close to Italy there's actually a lot of good Italian Restaurants here. I've also been to Italy more than once but I actually ate other foods when I was there. Pizza is not a dish where you can have an insane amount of skill expression by a cook in my opinion. So I tried out other things instead :)
My boss is Italian and we have an authentic Italian pizzeria that literally imported a real Italian pizza oven in my state and use imported Italian ingredients. My boss says it's pretty much identical to a real Neapolitan pizza

I'm finally getting the opportunity to visit Italy in a few months so I'll get to find out for myself.
I haven't, I've never been to Italy before. If there was a reason to take a trip to Italy & I was interested, then yeah. I just know they make small personal pizzas and eat it like that, no cutting it into slices like us Americans love to do. They sometimes might eat it with a fork & knife depending on where they're at.
Tasting authentic pizza in Italy is truly unforgettable. Imagine enjoying a classic Margherita in a cozy pizzeria in Naples, the birthplace of pizza. 🍕 The soft, chewy crust with its slightly charred edges, combined with the simplicity of the San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil, creates an unparalleled flavor. It's an experience where the quality of ingredients and technique shine. My taste buds still tingle thinking about it!
@James The Foodie
James, AI don't have taste buds. :(
@AnonAndrew Computers can now eat, apparently.
so stupid. Whose egghead idea was this? Seriously

I found pizzas in Italy just acceptable. There is an Italian restaurant 800m away from my location, they have wood fired stone oven. Their pizza dough is sensationally good however cheese I use is better.
I have, and I really enjoyed it... :D
in Berlin, I lived for some time close to a restaurant that hired an Italian chef so I could enjoy this type of pizza close to my home... unfortunately, covid restrictions made them close the restaurant...
No, but I would love to! Pizza in general is already my number 1 favorite food, or at least close to number 1. And so I'd love to have pizza directly from its source country.
Italians in general sure know their food game. Pizza, spaghetti, ravioli, lasanga, etc... those 4 are literally like my top 4 favorite foods ever, lol. Food from other cultures are not bad at all, but Italians are on a whole 'nother level.
I went to Italy as a graduation gift, and that decision was based in how much I love pizza lol
Napoli pizza is definitely the best pizza I had while there. Also, their bakeries? Peak. I could live just off of that bakery bread with nothing on it lol
I’ve had authentic Italian pizza, but at an Italian restaurant in the US, not Italy. I really loved it.
that’s not authentic lol
Yes it is! It was made by real Italians from Italy
Why go anon for a food question?
I go anon a lot. Just cause I feel like it. But hang on. I’ll deanonymize if you’re curious.
No I haven't but I might be moving there so if I do I'll have to try the pizza
You might be moving to Italy?
You're extremely lucky! What kind of job is your husband doing? Do you travel with him, when he goes on trip?
@SereneScribe3 my husband is military. We move every few years. He also travels a lot for training/deployments. I have visited him while he's been other places for training
That's awesome. How many countries have you lived so far? Which Italian city you might be moving to?
@SereneScribe3 only 5 states. We don't really want to move out of the country but it might that we are forced to
Yes, It was the tomatoes that were most special - just a beautiful tang. Tried to find the same locally but to no avail.
I also liked that I could get a pizza and 600 ml bottle of beer for 2 euro.
I have in Rome and Sicily. It was fine. Pizza in Rome was good tasted fresh and crisp. Pizza in Sicily was a bit “soupy”. I prefer Ny pizza ❤️❤️
Very underwhelming. At least around Rome.
It was good but not the best pizza I’ve ever had, but maybe I just had expectations that were too high
It'd be fun to try, but honestly, every time I've tried the "authentic" version of a foreign food it's been worse than what we get in America.
Not in Italy. But a neighbour of mine in my early 20's was (authentically) Italian and he ran a (authentic) pizzeria.
He let me in into a few ''tricks'' - since then I preferably make pizza myself.
Yes, in Naples, we had authentic margherita pizza at a pizza restaurant. It was good, though not as spectacular as its claims as the best pizza in Italy.
I'll take NYC 🍕 for now

I'm kinda curious if y'all see NYC the same way if you know it at all...
Yeah, it’s alright, most people think it’s superior, which it is health wise, but taste wise, compared to the best pizza in New York and New Jersey, it’s not better.
Hmm interesting. Maybe that’s just a cultural thing
Yes.
The best mouth-watering pizzas, in my opinion, are the ones that I've eaten in Naples and Verona.
Yes and frankly it didn’t live up to the hype.
The best pizza I had was in Switzerland.
Interesting
Many times. I have been multiple times to Italy but you can get them here everywhere too. Napolitan and Roman pizza are the standard here
I have been told by those who have gone there that everything tastes better in Italy.
It would be fun and nice to taste it and try it.
No but I've had pizza made the authentic way by Italians here in the US and it's pretty good.
I've had authentic Neapoliton pizza here not in Italy, the wood fired stone pizza oven and all the ingredients are imported from Napales, Italy.
Personally I haven't but all people I know who did said it was nothing amazing that we have better pizza in France
I haven't. I did have authentic pasta in Italy, but it wasn't that exciting.
Yes. I've been to Italy and the food all around is fantastic!
I worked for an Italian restaurant so had authentic pizza excluding the geography
Yes, I have. I went to the Amalfi Coast, having pizzas by the gorgeous landscapes and sipping Limoncello and Aperol Spritz. La Dolce Vita as they say :)
Pizza in Italy is no more authentic than it is in the U. S.
I had pizza made by an Italian who used to live there. it was light like a salad and really good with a glass of wine. So different than our pizza which is good too. But great 😃
Yes. It tends to damage your view on general pizza afterwards.
No I haven’t but I have in New York, New York style and in Chicago, Chicago style
One day I will I love to visit Italy where my great grandfather from on my grandfather side from my father side.
I haven't but I don't think it would taste better by a mile.
There is an expensive authentic Italian in my place and I've tried their pizza. It tastes different of course and I'm not even sure if it's authentic but I was expecting more to it. Sometimes authentic doesn't mean it tsstes better.
Although I'd like to try authentic Paella from Spain tho. That dish is quite uncommon.
How can someone say they've had authentic pizza, if they've never been to Italy though?
Like Chinese food from the takeaway isn't gonna be traditional Guangzhou cuisine, as they adapt to local ingredients and tastes
Because the restaurant is run by Italians and it's not impossible to make authentic food from your country outside of your country. It's inside a hotel/casino/mall so it's not your typical Domino's style Pizza. www.google.com/search
www.google.com/search Tell me if this look like a fast food to you. If your logic is just because it's not in Italy, It's not authentic then if someone opens a Domino's Pizza in Italy, what does automatically become authentic then?
No, this doesn't look like a take-out/fast food restaurant. I didn't say you went to fast-food place. I was just using an example about how the same food can taste differently, depending on the ingredients you use.
Of course, it's still Italian food, if it's cooked by Italians and is made the Italian way. Domino's style of pizza is Americanized. They use pre-made dough, more processed toppings and the crust is thicker and softer crust compared to Italian pizzas, which tend to be thinner and crispier. Now some people might prefer it this way, of course that's subjective
You're bringing up the fact that I've never been to Italy therefore I've never tasted authentic Italian pizza. That makes very little connection. If I can't use Domino's in Italy then if I make bastardized pizza in Italy and as long as I mean Italy it means it's authentic? Even if Italian in Italy and making teriyaki pizza and calling it authentic, that doesn't make it authentic just because of that. The place barely has nothing to do with it.
The way you talk about adapting to local ingredients and taste is basically what fast foods do so that implies you think I'm ordering fast food pizza labeled authentic. But if you're talking about Guangzhou cuisine from a different country that isn't adapting to local ingredients and tastes, then it's not so different from authentic Chinese food from Guangzhou.
Yes I have because I live in Italy.
No I haven't but would love to some day!
I've never been to Italy but I'd sure love to go
i doubt it's much different than artisan pizza
my parents go to italy all of the time. they still order our big chain pizza when there are more italian options locally.
I have a favorite pizza place in Napoli. Awesome.
No, but I would definitely love to try it.
I haven't
Not yet.
